Abstract

The Filipinya game is a game developed by SMYL that is both entertaining and educational to all
of its players that will give them a specific background on our nation's cultural folklores while promoting
Philippines unique local products. Mainly based on the Filipinya Book published by Sir Richard Thomas,
this game aims to reminisce people's minds and helps them remember or introduce them to Philippine
cultural folklores and local products., our respective client. Agile Methodology was used in the
development of the game to be able to make it flexible to all sudden changes that might happen during the
development period. The game underwent many development stages to evaluate the game’s functional
stability, performance efficiency, compatibility, usability, reliability, security, maintainability and
portability. It was concluded that the objective of this study was met by the researchers as they outlines and
recognized the requirements of the client.

Introduction

The Filipinya game is an action-adventure esque type of game that is based on the Filipinya book
which was published online by its author Sir Richard Thomas. The book signifies about the Pride,
Patriotism and Spirit of the Filipino people throughout the beautiful islands of the Philippines. It also
involves about the promoting products that are only made in the Philippines. The game involves fighting
some legendary and mythical creatures that exist in the Filipino folklores. It will push the players to know
specific knowledge about certain Filipino folklores to get ahead of the proposed game such as knowing the
weakness, strengths and also the origin of these folklore creatures. With this game, we are sure that the
players who will play our game will gain subsequent knowledge about our nation’s native folklore stories
that almost all our parents did also enjoy during their childhood years and know the different Philippine
products from which the game is promoting along with their information on where they originated.

The general objective of this project is to develop a game that will educate the players regarding about
Philippine folklores creatures and their origins along with introducing and promoting unique Philippine
products to help preserve our culture in these modern times. Along with these specific objectives:
 Create a game that is both entertaining and educational
 Spread knowledge about Philippine folklore locally even internationally
 Introduce and promote Philippine products to foreigners
 Embrace Filipino culture through the story of the game
 To learn how to develop a game thru the use of Unity and C#

Methodology
The Agile Development Lifecycle describes a set of values and principles for software development under
which requirements and solutions evolve through the collaborative effort of self-organizing cross-
functional teams. It advocates adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, and continuous
improvement, and it encourages rapid and flexible response to change. Also the reason why we have chosen
this methodology is because it is very adaptive and evolutionary so in the future if we need to improve or
change the process we can do so with minimal risk.

Upon the alpha and beta testing of our game, we have a total of 20 respondents that helped us evaluate the
game’s system and mechanics. The respondents that we have included is mainly composing of students of
different ages ranging from 12 – 16 years old to give us a more detailed evaluation on the players who
will play the game. We have used the ISO 25010 questionnaire wherein the functional stability,
performance efficiency, compatibility, usability, reliability, security, maintainability and portability of the
game are being evaluated. And on the final phase of the quality assurance testing, we have gone to the
User Acceptance Testing which is the last phase of the software testing process. This is important for it
directly involves the intended users of the finished software which in our case, the players of the game.

Data Analysis
In our data analysis and gathering, we have conducted the descriptive statistics. Descriptive Statistics
process involves taking a potentially large number of data points in the sample and reducing them down
to a few meaningful summary values and graphs. This procedure allowed us to gain more insights and
visualize the data that we have gathered through testing which includes the deficiencies and the still-
needed improvements of the game system mechanics. Upon this way, we were able to concocted better
ways on how we can improve game experience of the players.

Results and discussion


The game underwent many processes of testing for the assurance of client and game players’ satisfaction.
There are surveys conducted which shows if the game is functioning well. The game system classifies
through the analysis of answered questionnaire wherein the functional stability, performance efficiency,
compatibility, usability, reliability, security, maintainability and portability of the game are being
evaluated.

As we have seen on the results, the Filipinya game has acquired a score of 3.67 indicating that beta testers
were partially impressed of the game. All the qualities of the game, as per the testing results passed its
evaluation.

Conclusion and Recommendation

The objectives of this study was met by the researchers as they outlined and recognized the
requirements of their client, the Idoltap Studious and the author of book of Filipinya where the game is
based at, Sir Richard Thomas. The researchers conducted an alpha testing on the game whether it’s working
properly depending on what the client wants. The results of the tests shows the capabilities and deficiencies
of the Filipinya Game. Its gameplay was simplified so it can be understood by children in lower ages and
an easier pastime for adults. The Filipinya Game, once released, can be very helpful and at the same time,
entertaining and educational to all players that have little knowledge to the Philippine folklores and certain
unique Philippine products because it can help know these details on a very fun way of playing a game.
Additionally, children, who have still doesn’t know about these cultural folklores will become engross on
researching them to understand them. Also international foreigners from other countries, if this game was
released in the world market, will be able know about our nation’s folklores and unique local products
which can be beneficial to our local stores and businesses.
Based on the conclusions drawn and gathered data, the following recommendations are hereby offered:
1. The game should be a lot longer with more challenges for the players.
2. Make the game objects and characters more fluid and refine in either 3D or the same 2D modeling.
3. Add more game mechanics like skill upgrading by game points and also more folklore creatures
and additional Philippine products for promotion.
