TAMUC Automotive Group

The Company

TAMUC Automotive Group is a car dealership that sells used cars such as Honda, GM, Ford. Recently,
the company want to build database system to keep track with its inventory and sales performance.

Business Requirements

The new database system consists of three separate systems - inventory, customer management, and sales.

Inventory

TAMUC Automotive Group wants to check the current inventory level of each used car. Each vehicle has
a VIN number that stored in the system to keep track with the vehicle. Each vehicle typically will be
shipped from other manufacturers when the number of vehicle in inventory drops to a certain number.
General information of each car such as make, model, and mileage are stored in the system.

Customer Management

When a customer wants to see the vehicle, the salesperson will give him a key to test the car. For each car
test when the customer has problems or questions, the salesperson wants to write down in a log. This log
is very important for TAMUC Group because they haven’t been recorded anywhere in the computerized
system before.

The salesperson wants to keep track with the progress of all customers that they interact with.
Particularly, they want to know their customer’s general information, their buying process (i.e.,
negotiation price, number of time visits etc.), and whether the customer purchases a car.

Sales

Finally, the most important part of the system is keeping track of sales and payments on those sales.
TAMUC want to know the customer who purchased the car, the VIN number of the car, and the
salesperson who sold the car.

For each transaction, information about the sale such as down payment, credit score, trade-in values are
also entered in the system. If the customer wants to trade in an older car, the system should allow to
record vehicle information including the year, make, model, mileage, and general condition.

As a group, your team will need to provide ERD, codes to create tables and sample records, sample SQL
queries, and sample Tableau to show case your business analytic solutions. Each team will require to
provide a written report, and a presentation in the end of the semester. Please check syllabus schedule for
more detail.
