Epuni School
Nau mai e te whānau o te Kura Epuni,
Tēna koutou katoa,
I do hope you all had a great holiday and Easter break. It is great to see
everyone back again ready for an action packed term. This term our
overarching theme is Space – To Infinity and Beyond, and the school
value we will be focusing on and teaching is Manaakitanga – Respect.
I would like to welcome Daniel Ekers who has joined the Epuni staff
this term as a Teacher Aide. He is supporting students with their
learning in class.
You may be aware that Teachers rejected the latest offer from the
Governement as it didn’t address the ongoing concerns of time to
teach, time to lead, and more support for children with additional
learning needs. This is needed to attract teachers to the profession and
ensure a quality education for our tamariki. This is a really difficult
situation for all our staff who work so hard to provide the very best for
our tamariki. Teachers have paid union meetings they will be attending
to discuss this further, on Tuesday 7th May and Thursday 9th May at
1:30pm. We will manage this to ensure that there is as little disruption
to learning as possible.
Lastly I would like say how blown away I have been with all the support
whānau have given to tidying our school grounds last term. The
working bee had to be cancelled, because of bad weather, however
many gave up their time over the following weeks to garden, trim,
weedeat and tidy areas around the school. A huge thank you as this
has made such a difference to our school. We are so fortunate to have
such large grounds, our challenge is the maintenance of them.
Thank you for your ongoing support and I look forward to working with
you all again this term.

What’s happening around the school
From the Board of Trustees
School Board of Trustee Elections 2019
The three yearly elections for five Parent
Representatives to the Board of Trustees are
being held this year in June. If you have
relevant experience in governance roles
please start thinking of standing to be on our
school Board. Nomination forms have been
posted this week and nominations close at
noon on Friday 24th May 2019. There are
nomination forms available at our school
office in Maori, Tongan, and Samoan. If you
have any questions about the Board please
contact Gilliam Berridge by email on
berridge@kinect.co.nz.
Mother’s Day Raffle
Tickets are now on sale at the office for $1.00
each, and will be drawn in the morning on
Friday 10th May at whānau time. All
proceeds will go towards the playground.

Are you interested in cooking kai for The
Remakery? Do you have time during the day to
give back to your community. If so please pop in
to The Remakery, 310 Waiwhetu Rd and ask for
Lisa.

child is going to be ABSENT OR LATE. Please
email our office at office@epuni.school.nz
before 9.30am and leave a message which
includes name, room number and the reason
your child is away or is going to be late. Late
children—please report to the office so we do
not ring your parents. Remember school starts at
8.55am.
