Dear Advisory Board:

For my RCS Capstone Experience Senior Project, my topic is the debate on why college
athletes should be paid to play their sport. I chose this area for my project because this is a
topic that I am very interested in and would like to go more in depth by using research to
ultimately find a way for college athletes to get paid to play their sport. Although I enjoy
researching this topic, it will also be a learning stretch because I am a High School student and I
do not know what a college athlete goes through on a daily basis which makes it difficult to
represent the college athlete population when I am not apart of that population.

My thesis for this project is; Student-athletes should get paid with a salary of $25,000 to pay for
their potential injury that could end their pro career, bring a sense and atmosphere of prestige to
their university, and generate more revenue for their college by performing at a very high level
for fans to pay to see them play. The focus of my paper is to go into the minds and daily lives of
a student-athlete who attends college and to view the physical, financial, and mental struggles
they encounter while attending college and playing a sport at the same time.

My product plan for my RCS Capstone Experience Senior Project is to host a 3 on 3 Basketball
Tournament that would be held at Morehead and all of the proceeds would go towards raising
awareness for student-athletes who struggle daily while they are in school. This product plan is
a challenge because it may be hard to get enough teams to sign up and play simply due to their
schedules’ that might conflict with the date of the tournament. I am plan on using Brandon Hill
who was a former college wrestler from Appalachian State and knows firsthand of the many
physical, financial, and mental struggles that a college student-athlete experiences. If I were to
work with Brandon, he would be able to give me his personal insight of what a college
student-athlete experiences daily which would greatly benefit my overall Senior Project.

I understand that plagiarism is a very serious issue and is not tolerated on any assignment,
especially not one of this magnitude. I believe that it is very important to avoid the act of
plagiarism in order to be honest and present my research findings by giving full credit to those
sources. Finally, it is important to be an ethical person because if one is not ethical, they will
begin to show their lack of integrity and ultimately become an outcast because everyone sees
through their lies and untrustworthy ways.

Sincerely,

Jaegar Nance
