This document compares four mobility management protocols - MIPv6, FMIPv6, HMIPv6, and PMIPv6. MIPv6 suffers from high packet loss and handover latency. FMIPv6 provides fast and low latency handovers but has high overhead. HMIPv6 has reduced packet loss and handover latency. PMIPv6 has high packet loss and handover latency but partially supports quality of service. Battery life is most affected with MIPv6 and duplicate address detection takes the longest with MIPv6 and consumes the most time with HMIPv6.
