Sri Sri Ravishankar Ashram (Art of

Living), Kanakapura Road,
Bangalore - Breathe away your all your
anxieties and worries
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, once a disciple of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (renowned spiritual guide of
the Beatles), is the subcontinent's hottest New Age guru. Many consider "The Art of Living,"
his secular philosophy of enjoying life.

His main Ashram lies on 24 hectares (60 acres) of lush green hillside in south Bangalore
(Bengaluru), where every evening thousands of the city's well-heeled gather for the evening
lecture and satsang (devotional singing).

The well articulated Swamiji encourages his

disciples to enjoy the present without guilt while also encouraging them to contribute
towards humanitarian and environmental concerns. His followers are from India's growing
urban elite, but also hugely popular on foreign shores (San Franciscans have a real penchant
for his teachings).
Even his fiercest detractors admit the value of Sudarshan Kriya, an ancient breathing
technique taught when you attend the "Art of Living" course. The 30-minute-a-day practice is
said to encourage the flow of oxygen to the whole body, ostensibly discouraging the storage of
toxins and thus helping release anxiety, frustration, depression, and anger, leaving you with a
genuine sense of calm and well-being.

To attend an evening session or a 14-hour Art of Living course spread over several days, call
ahead (Tel. 080/28432273, -2274, or -2832; 21st Km, Kanakapura Main Rd.,

a morning prayer (Suprabatham). This is followed by Veda Parayan (chanting of the Vedas),
nagarasankirtana (morning devotional songs) and twice a day bhajans and
darshan(appearance of Sai Baba to devotees). Particularly significant are the darshans during
October (the Dasara holidays and November (the month of Sai Baba's birth).

During darshan Sathya Sai Baba walks among his followers and may interact with people,
accept letters, materialize and distribute vibhuti (sacred ash) or call groups or individuals for
interviews. Interviews are chosen solely by the guru's discretion. Followers consider it a great
privilege to get an interview and sometimes a single person, group or family will be invited
for a private interview.

People who receive such interviews may be startled by the materializations and the
disclosures that Sathya Sai Baba as a clairvoyant reveals of their own lives. Sathya Sai Baba
claims that his darshan has spiritual benefits, which is a common belief among Hindus
regarding saints and gurus.
