Detective

The La Crosse Police Department received a phone call late at night at 10:37 p.m. on

June 6, 2010, describing a murder of Mark Smith. I was called to the crime scene along with

Detective Jane Doe to investigate. Upon arrival, we found the body of Mark Smith in a dark

corner in his neighbor’s parking garage with multiple stab wounds on his entire body. The

bodies of the neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, were not far away, also displaying multiple

stab wounds around the torso area. It appears that there has been a murder of at least three

persons by possibly a single individual. Upon further investigation, Detective Doe and I

encountered a wedding ring near Mr. Smith, possibly thrown at him. I suggested to Detective

Doe that Mr. Smith’s wife has murdered Mr. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, perhaps after a

fight.

Coroner

The body of Mr. Smith displays eleven stab wounds. The wounds are primarily

concentrated around the anterior torso area. There are three stab wounds on the posterior of

Mr. Smith. It appears that Mr. Smith was initially stabbed several times in the back, and once he

collapsed with his posterior side facing down, Mr. Smith was stabbed eight additional times.

This is shown by the injury to the occipital area of Mr. Smith’s cranium, as it showed a small

crack, often seen in individuals who landed backwards on a hard rock or concrete surface. It

appears that the only injuries to Mr. Smith are the eleven stab wounds and the cracked

cranium. Upon investigating Mr. Smith’s stomach and liver contents, it appears that the only

contents are his dinner.

Eulogy
Mark Smith was not only my son. He was also my friend, my fishing buddy, my work

partner. I am deeply saddened and angered by his murder. Mark was loved by everybody, and

nobody would ever see this coming to him. He was an inclusive and unselfish man who wanted

the best for everyone around him. It almost feels like yesterday that I taught Mark how to take

a hook out of a fish’s mouth before we even potty-trained him. He was a curious, fun-loving

young boy, and he grew up to still be a curious, fun-loving man. I will never go another day in

my life without thinking about Mark, without thinking why it happened to my own son. He is

still with us today, just invisible to us now. We love you Mark, very much, and thank you for

being such a wonderful son.

Lawyer

On June 6, 2010, my client, Mark Smith, was murdered by his wife, Sue Smith. The

eleven stabs were all out of pure anger for Mr. Smith, anger for something he did not even do.

Mark has been going to the Anderson’s house quite often, because that’s what friends do,

right? But Sue obviously thought Mark didn’t want to be with her anymore, making her overly

jealous. Mrs. Smith, how is anybody going to believe that the murderer took your own ring off

and threw it at Mr. Smith? Those rings don’t come off easy, you must have really helped the

murderer with that. My client’s unfortunate death was not a random incident. It occurred out

of the worst form of jealousy.
