Summary

Of

GREENING THE BLUE.

Once upon a time, in the deep sea, there was a family of fish swimming around the white bony
coral reef. Suddenly, something caught the eyes of one tiny fish, Leo.

“Look guys! What are those?”

Said Leo while pointing in that direction with its tail. An older fish coming with the name Mala,
told the rest of the school of fish that those were jellyfishes. Yet, when they got nearer, they came to
notice that the jellyfish had no tentacles. Only then, they realized that the so-called jellyfish was not what
it was.

“It is a plastic!” Leo shouted.

Mala shook her head with disgust.

“Humans, they never learn that the things they are throwing and dumping in the ocean are killing
us. I am appalled by how terrible human beings are. Kids, have you ever heard of Eastern Garbage
Patch?”

All of the fishes shook their head profusely, signing their curiosity.

“It is a floating whirlpool of trash, in the Pacific ocean. It is so huge. It is as big as the size of
Texas.” Said Mala. They were nodding with a frown on each of their face.

“Most of the trash are plastics right, Mala?” Odin, a male clown fish asked curiously.

“True my dear. Humans should no longer treat us like this. They can do so many things to save
the ocean. First and foremost, they should use fewer plastic products! Bring their own bag, when they go
shopping, and try to cut-down packaged food in plastics. Remember what happened to Dolly, the turtle?”

Mala looked at the rest of the fishes. Suddenly one of them shrieked loudly, as if it had seen
something so terrible.

“I remember! It got choked by this one long plastic with hole. It died tragically. What a poor
soul.” Said Gunny, the blob fish.

Mala looked down with tears welled up in its eyes. “Yes, human has to stop using things they
simply called it, straw. It killed our friends. Besides, it wouldn’t be that difficult if they work together and
help to clean the ocean. There are plenty of activities can be done. International Coastal cleanup is one
of it.”

“Mala, did you see the whitish bones on our way here earlier? What are those?” asked Leo.

“Those are coral reefs. But they are all dead. All because of what human did. Not only that,
sometimes our sea is polluted with oil. They spilled it here. In our place. The oil affects marine mammals
that swim to the surface to breathe. They suffer damaged airways and congested lungs if they ingested
the oils. Furthermore, the oil will also block sunlight in the water.” Mala, with a heavy heart explained to
the school of fish.
“Alright children, let us go and find a place to live. Many of our places have been harmed by
human beings. They claimed to be best creature that God has created, but their actions prove them
wrong. I really hope one fine day, a person will make a change to this situation.” Mala continued.

“Perhaps they will…” the rest of the fishes mumbles slowly, praying for a glimmer of hope.
