INDONESIA-TURKEY'S HALAL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT OF FOOD, MEDICINE

AND COSMETIC AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMY THROUGH


WORLD HALAL MARKET HUB

Abstract

Population of Muslim in the world has been increase in recent years, currently form one-fifth of
the world's population. This lead to the growing awareness of consuming halal products and the
importance of establishing halal standards, certification and authentication on products such as
food, medicine and cosmetics since halal recognized as a new lifestyle and benchmark of safety
assurance. Therefore it is necessary to develop food safety regulations such as Good
Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and General
Guidelines on Halal Product (GGHP). In addition, the manufacturers have to fulfill and produce
food, medicine and cosmetic based on halal requirements. Indonesia and Turkey, known as
Muslim-majority countries, have strategic state position. Both countries can initiate the
establishment of global halal industry through collaboration in the development of the
preparation and implementation of GMP, HACCP and GGHP also in the innovation of
technologies and facilities to provide halal products. The intention of this concept paper is to
propose framework collaboration between Indonesia and Turkey for developing and increase the
export rate of halal product. The framework collaboration began with technology and demand
analyzed from market environment that encourage manufacturers on halal production. Moreover,
the increased capital investments needed in providing trained personnel and premises will ensure
halal requirements during the production process. This model directs the top management to
pursue halal accreditation to produce halal products that can compete and exports to the world
market. Furthermore, as the result of the collaboration, Indonesia and Turkey expected to export
the halal products, become the world halal market hub also become a new source of world halal
market and economy power.
