Crafting my teaching philosophy for Physical Education has been an evolving process

that I have been developing over the course of the school year as an intern teacher. The

experience as a first-year teacher has been humbling, enlightening, and occasionally

disorienting. I’ve grown a lot as an educator by experience and through the credential program

but I also need to continue to remain curious and open minded as a learner through life and

teaching. My approach is to always grow as a learner by continuing to seek education and learn

on my own by expanding my perspective and being an active listener. When I have a mindset

that is open to learning it makes me a better teacher by being able to relate to their learning

perspective. My teaching will continue to improve and evolve as I practice reflecting and

adapting to the needs of my students of all ability levels. They can further develop aspects of

my teaching that need improvement and I can help them reach their potential as students by

numerous scaffolding techniques that nurture and develop their growth as students. Some of

these effective scaffolding techniques for learners of all abilities are having balanced teams,

providing visual models, designing an appropriate physical space, and crafting engaging and

creative lesson plans.

Creating a learning atmosphere that students feel supported by myself and their peers

by positive and inclusive language will promote a comfortable and motivational learning

environment. Students should feel that they can express themselves in PE class and shouldn’t

worry about making mistakes because it will only make them better. Students need appraisal to

perform and feel supported but it is even more important to give students process related

feedback that can help students improve the performance of a specific psychomotor movement

skill. Giving students feedback that is constructive will allow for them to have a personal
objective they can work toward and earn a sense of fulfillment. Building human connection

between the students and myself will foster a sense of community and can assist the students

by knowing how their backgrounds may affect them in PE. I look forward to continuing to grow

as a teacher and help future generations live healthy and happy lives.
