Folk Dance

The following is a listing of the Rules and Regulations for the Folk Dance
Competition. Participants are categorized based on age as follows:
 Sub-juniors: less than 8 Yrs old
 Juniors: 8-12 yrs Old
 Seniors: Older than 12 Yrs

There would be two different styles of performances:

 SOLO PERFORMANCE: Prizes that would be given away for the First (I) and
Second (II) best dancers.
 GROUP: Prizes would be given away for the First (I) and Second (II) best
Group dancers.

The following criteria are suggested for these dances:

 Selection of the item

 Physical dance - rhythm
 Facial expressions
 Make-up or get-up
 Effective use of props
 For group dance, the overall coordination among the members
of the group.
Please note that the dances to movie songs may be considered in this
category if they are of folk nature.

General Rules:

1. Each person can participate in only one age category. One cannot participate in
say junior and senior category type of event. In the case of group items, an
individual cannot participate in more than one group for the same event.
2. Each category will have column for judge's discretion (5 points). A copy of the
grading sheet will remain with the judges - one copy will be collected after the
item is completed. At the end of the item, the judges are given 10-15 minutes
time to verify/change grades on their own. SiliconAndhra representatives will
collect the FINAL grades from the judges and evaluate the decisions by totaling
up each category.
3. Each criterion has a maximum of 10 points.
4. Choreographer / Organizer is responsible for any special effects at their cost
unless agreed by SiliconAndhra Cultural Committee in advance.
5. Folk dances cannot be more than 5 minutes in duration.
6. In order to be fair and equitable SiliconAndhra may modify or change any of the
rules stipulated without prior notice to participants.
7. In all competitions, the decisions of the judges are final.
