The presence of two or more of the following four criteria, one of which

must be abnormal temperature or white blood cell count:


 Core temperature (rectal, bladder, oral, or central catheter probe)
>38.5°C (101.3°F) or <36°C (96.8°F)
 Abnormal WBC count or >10% immature neutrophils
 Tachycardia or bradycardia
 Mean RR >2 standard deviations for age or mechanical ventilation for
an acute process not related to an underlying neuromuscular disease
or to general anesthesia

Does the patient have documented maternal risk NEUROLOGIC: convulsions, drowsy or unconscious, decreased
factors like one of the following? activity, bulging fontanel
 History of UTI last semester RESPIRATORY: respiratory rate >60 breaths/min, grunting, sever
 Membranes ruptured >18h before delivery chest indrawing, central cyanosis
 Fever >38C before delivery or during labor CARDIAC: poor perfusion, rapid and weak pulse
 Foul-smelling or purulent amniotic fluid GI jaundice, poor feeding, abdominal distention
DERMA: skin pustules, periumbilical erythema or purulence
MSK edema or erythema overlying bones or joints
OTHER: Temperature >37.7°C (99.9°F; or feels hot) or
POTENTIALLY SEPTIC NEONATE
<35.5°C (95.9°F; or feels cold)
