JUNIPER WINTER 2012

T R E K TO C H U R D H A R
A PR I L 12 -1 5 , 2012

This is as far as we got in 2007.

Our 2007 group was badly equipped.

Aborted Trip in April 2007

The above photographs was taken on the 8th of April 2007 at a height of 3300m on
Churdhar Peak. We were in terms of height about 350 meters below the summit and
could not climb further due to heavy snow and some slippery sections enroute. It was
also snowing and many in the group were not equipped to trek in snow. Our learning
from the 2007 experience is that while Churdhar is not a high peak it should not be
viewed as a leisurely walk up. This year the snow fall has been the highest in many
years. By April the snow should have melted to some extend but it will still pose a stiff
challenge.

Nauradhar - Starting Point of the Trek

The beauty of Churdhar is the short drive to the starting point. Chandigarh is now three
hours away from Delhi. From Chandigarh one needs to drive to Solan on the route to
Shimla and then take a right. Within a couple of hours we reach the small town of
Nauradhar ( 2100m), the starting point of the trek to Churdhar.

broad trail.
