Nature of the Work

Dentists will diagnose and treat problems with the patient's teeth or gums. Some
duties that a dentists does are as follows:

➔ Examine patients x-rays of teeth, gums, the jaw, and nearby areas
➔ Place sealants or whitening agents on teeth
➔ Repair cracked or fractured teeth and remove teeth
➔ Administer anesthetics to keep patients from feeling pain during procedures
Working Conditions

When working as a dentist you spend all your time being inside. The conditions of
the environment all vary as well.

Full- time dentist

➔ Works approximately 36 hours per week


➔ The schedule for a dentist is flexible

Part- time dentist

➔ Works approximately 22-25 hours a week


Occupational Outlook

The growth of a dentist has been projected to grow by 16% by the end of 2018. The
demand for dental care has increased dramatically over the years. The demand for
dental services follows the business cycle, if the economy begins to slow down then
the demand for dental care will begin to decrease.
