STANDARD LESSON PLAN FORMAT

I. Describe the Class

Junior US history class of 35 students, one ELL, and two special needs students.

II. Subject/Skill:

Subject of this lesson is the America’s involvement in Vietnam from 1955-75. Students will
listen to a 30 minute lecture and take notes from a power point. After the PowerPoint they will
get together in groups of two and work on packets to further their knowledge. At the end of the
week the students will have to give individual presentations that go in two year increments of the
15 years. There will be eight presentations, one of which will be only one year.

III. Objective(s)

Students must be able to identify and explain why the US was involved in Vietnam during the
50’s, why the US ramped up its involvement in the war, why the us eventually pulled out of
Vietnam, and the last political effects of the war.

IV. Procedures

A power point will be given at the beginning of class. After the power point the students will get
together in groups of two and complete packets that will test their knowledge. At the end of the
week the students will give their own presentation to the class.

V. Materials

The students will use the textbook and online resources to produce their presentations

VI. Grouping Structures

The classroom will be divided based on academic performance. The groups will be divided up
with half and half mix of students who are above and below grade level. This is an effort to bring
up the students who re below grade level and deepen the knowledge of the students who are
above grade level.

VII. Modifications

ELL students will receive priority in the groupings. The highest achieving students will be paired
with the ELL students in order to bring them up. The special education students will receive
individual instruction from the teacher to help them I the learning process.

VIII. Assessment

Students will be graded on their depth of knowledge that will be determined during their
presentations.
