Left and Right Hand
Left and Right Hand
ASSEMBLY)
The Left and Right Hand Chart is a process chart in which the activities of
a worker’s hands (or limbs) are recorded in their relationship to one another. It is a
specialized form of process chart because it shows the two hands (and sometimes
the feet) of the operative moving or static in relation to one another, usually in
relation to a time scale. One advantage of incorporating a time scale in the chart
form is that the symbols for what the two hands are doing at any given moment are
brought opposite each other.
The two-handed process chart is generally used for repetitive operations, when one
complete cycle of the work is to be recorded. Recording is carried out in more
detail than is normal on flow process charts. What may be shown as a single
operation on a flow process chart may be broken down into a number of elemental
activities which together make up the operation.
Objectives:
The very act of making this chart enables the work study specialist to gain an
intimate knowledge of the details of the job and study each element of the
job
the relationships between two different activities can be established
The aim of this chart is to eliminate or reduce the unwanted motion to
minimum
Give ideas for improvements and to arrange the best of motions in a possible
sequence
Symbols Used:
The left and right hand chart is generally used for repetitive operations, when
one complete cycle of the work will be recorded. Recording is carried out in
more detail than is normally used on flow process charts. What may be shown
as a single operation on a flow process chart may be broken down into a number
of elemental activities which together make up the operation. The two-handed
process chart generally employs the same symbols as the other process charts
but because of the greater detail covered the symbols are accorded slightly
different meanings.
Following are the basic symbols used for left and right hand chart:

ANALYSIS:
In the present methods work layout, violated part is about the pulling out the
pins in the pin board of hand and arm motion. The used body parts in the activity
are finger, wrist, forearm, and upper arm. Finger and wrist are used for grasping
the pins and putting it in the pin board. Forearm and upper arm are used for the
entire process especially for the positioning the pins into the pin board. But
because of putting the pin in the pin board so hard causes the pin board to move
and cause also an unnecessary movement, therefore it lessen the efficiency of the
task. Our proposed method is to change the way the operator put the pins in the pin
board so it lessen the unnecessary movement and stress of the operator.
In current layout method, the operator standing in the middle of the table, and
the pin board is placed in middle of the table while the pin box is placed in the
upper part of pin board. We see that the operator having a hard time pulling out the
pins in the pin board and an unnecessary movement is seen.
By putting the pin in the pin board in a smooth way can lessen the hard time
pulling it out and also unnecessary movement will lessen.
Conclusion:
Therefore conclude that the activity could be done faster if the problems are taken
care of. And the placing of Pin box and board also has a big impact in the said
activity so in a right and correct placing of pin box and board can lessen the
problem. And operator can work faster and better with the correct environment set
for the task, also operator can get comfort to lessen the fatigue induced by the task.
