The Relation between the Nutritional Status of Mother and the Weight of the

ABSTRACT
Backgrounds : The problem of nutrition is one of the causes of deaths of mothers
and infants. The lack of nutrition status of pregnant women during pregnancy can
make a lot of bad impact for mothers and infants, is that infants are born with low
birth weight.The infants with low birth weight have 10-20 times for death larger
than the infants with normal birth weight. A pregnant woman would born a healthy
infant if she had a good nutrition. But there is still plenty of pregnant women who
have problems of nutritions especially chronic malnutrition energy.

Methods : The research is observational analitic with crossectional method. The


results of research analyzed using the chi-square statistically. The population of this
research was all the mothers holding the check up antenatal care at the age of
pregnancy 0-42 weeks and childbirth at Puskesmas Pataruman 2.

Results : By using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), the data
processed in cross tabulation 2x2 and was obtained in a pv=0.000 (pv< α) which
means there is a meaningful between nutritions and the low of infant born at
Puskesmas Pataruman 2, Banjar City, West Java in 2014. The odds ratio=11 which
means mothers with chronic malnutrintion energy have 11 time to have a low birth
weight compared with that of mothers with normal nutritions.

Conclusions: There is a significant relation between nutrition status of pregnant


woman and infant at Puskesmas Pataruman 2, Banjar City, West Java in 2014
