Design and Implementation of Three Phase

Multi-level Inverter

Abstract:
In recent years, industry has begun to demand higher power equipment, which now reaches the
megawatt level. Today, it is burdensome to connect a single power semiconductor switch directly to
medium voltage grids. To overcome this problem, a new family of multilevel inverters has emerged as the
solution for working with higher voltage levels. Multilevel inverter technology has emerged recently as a
very important alternative in the area of high-power medium-voltage energy control. This project uses
cascaded H-bridges topology with separate dc sources. A cascaded multilevel converter topology is used
in this project which consist of series connection of single-phase inverters with separate dc sources. Each
single-phase full-bridge inverter generates three voltages at the output +Vdc,0 and -Vdc.

Applications:
 Motor drives
 Electric vehicle drives
 DC power source utilization
 Power factor compensators
 Back to back frequency link systems
 Interfacing with renewable energy resources.
