​ I would like to introduce myself, my name is Sara Alawi, I’m 18 years old.

I came to United States about two years ago. Before i came in america, i was living in

Yemen. Everything was good and safe before the civil war started, but after that, the

country became a dangerous place to live in and alot of things got messed up and

nobody ​can​ go outside. As a result from this conflict, I stopped​ to go​ to school for five

months and I could not go outside to buy and get the stuffs ​t I need​, my life was getting

worse. In 2016 my family decided to go to America seeking for better and safer life for

all of us. ​Finally in 2017 I arrived to America in New York it was a beautiful and

unforgettable moment for me.

Now I’m a student in Origins High School Which is located in Brooklyn sheepshead

bay.I wasn’t speaking English at the beginning, the first year was difficult for me, trying

to understand what people say.I was struggling with communicating with them.I always

used to translate every word that I learn in class. However, sometimes I was thinking to

stop going to the school, because I felt overwhelmed, but I didn’t give up. Also, my

family encourage me to continue ,so I tried my best to do all my work, I started by

memorizing more words and understand them. Also, I did some essay to improve my

writing and grammar, and tried to reduce using translator.

 In my high school it was the hardest years in my educational life. I have been

struggling in every work the teachers gave me. For example: homeworks, exams, and

researches. The first exam I take is the SAT I was don't know what is the? or why I

need, this exam ? Then I told myself you have New life You should take advantage of

This place and time.

My dream has become that success in high school and passes the SAT after this

I will go to college and a study because I want to make myself and my family happy

Because I have done something for myself to be proud, and I hope Someday I'll

become a lawyer .
