SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE

Strong in Mind, Body and Spirit

Basic Education Unit

(Opening Speech- February 26, 2019)

Good Morning SECians!

Before I start my speech, kindly greet the person beside you a good morning with a smile in your
faces.

I will be asking you some questions but just keep your answers with you and reflect. When I asked you
to greet the person beside you, did you really consider my request? Have you greeted him/her
confidently? Will you consistently greet the person beside you a good morning before flag ceremony?

Last week we started to develop our social self by being considerate to others, practicing consistency
and being confident. For this week we’ll continue to strengthen our way of living with consideration,
confidence and consistency.

To start, let me share with you a short story of about a girl named Claire. Claire is a 13 year-old girl. At
first, she is always lazy to brush her teeth. She brushes it for only once a day. One day, she rode a train
and it was so crowded. The man beside her yawned and opened his mouth wide. She smelled the
breath of the man and it smells so bad. That time, she realized the importance of taking care of her
teeth. She told to herself that she doesn’t want someone to keep his/her distance on her because of
having a bad breath.

In the said story, Claire realized the importance of having proper hygiene and taking good care to
herself because it will boost her to be confidence to communicate and to deal with people. While not
having it will result to negative impact to those people. To maintain our good relationship we must be
consistent in everything that we do.

Remember that how we speak, act and control ourselves are important as we continue to establish
healthy and respectful relationship.

Thank you for listening SECians and may we have a productive week ahead.
