HIMALA
The Movie is all about:
A local girl named Elsa (Aunor), reports seeing and experiencing an apparition
of the Blessed Virgin Mary near a tree atop the barren hill where her adoptive mother
Aling Salíng (Labalan) found her as a baby. Elsa soon after engages in faith healing the
local residents. Word spreads, drawing pilgrims and the curious to Cupang and Elsa's
house, which is marked with a large banner proclaiming "Elsa Loves You". And later on
the people in barrio Cupang begin to sell religious reflicts. And also this movie is about
religious faith and faithlessness, morality, and truth.
The Setting:

The setting is in the sleepy, dry town of small town named Barrio Cupang, a
community set in an arid landscape. The townsfolk believed that the ongoing drought
was a curse placed upon them for driving away a leper some years before. And at the
top of the hill.

Main Character:

The main character are Nora Aunor as Elsa, Veronica Palileo as Mrs. Alba,
Spanky Manikan as Orly, Gigi Dueñas as Nimia, Vangie Labalan as Aling Saling, Laura
Centeno as Chayong, Ama Quiambao as Sepa, Ben Almeda as Baldo, and Cris Daluz
as Igme

The Theme:
The theme of the movie is all about the issues of religious faith and faithlessness,
morality, and truth and also it deals with the social issues of poverty, religion and
fanaticism.
The movie was:
The movie was so interesting and beautiful. It is interesting because all what
happened on the movie is real and this is happen until now, and also it is beautiful
because the lighting and the sound or the whole movie is almost perfect.
The main points are:
The main points of the movie are in the religion, beliefs, faith and faithlessness. I
think is all the main point in the movie. For example the faith and belief, in the movie it
showed the faith of all people in barrio Cupang and the belief that Elsa’s saw the Virgin
Mary and the belief that Elsa can heal them.
The writer/director concludes:
The writer/director conclude the movie in way of revealing the truth. Elsa called
they devotees at the top of the hill, in the hill that Elsa saw the Virgin Mary and she
revealed the truth, that is no miracle she said that miracle is all in our heart. Then Elsa
shoot by the man when she revealed the truth and Elsa died.
State what you like or dislike about the film:
I like the flow of the story and all the character because they acting in the way of
what character they portrait. And also like the acting of the main character Nora Aunor,
she acted natural and almost perfect, the emotion that she gave in her character is
natural and looks real. She truly looks like an ordinary Filipina, but her acting instincts
are at par with the best in knowing how to draw mass sympathy.
Explain your ideas w/ specific examples about the film:
“Walang himala, ang himala ay nasa puso ng tao, ang himala ay nasa puo
nating lahat”. This line catched my attention and this line is true. For me the miracle is
all in our heart. And only Jesus can do a miracle in Life, no can do miracle but only
Jesus .
Tell whether the writer/director achieve the goal:
For me they achieve their goal because they present real story in the movie, and
they bring to the people what the true meaning of FAITH and FAITHLESSNESS, the
RELIGION and BELIEFS.
You must watch this film because:
I suggest you must watch this movie because this is one of the best movie in our
country and in history of film making. This movie for me is a great movie, the theme is
real and happen in our generation, the setting is perfect for the story of the movie and
the character are all spectacular because they acted beautifully and natural.
