Screening Report 7 - China - Not One Less
Screening Report 7 - China - Not One Less
● In class, we discussed how China has a rich culture of genres of films that are staples in our
society today. They created some of the first concepts that we now use today, for example, Kung
Fu Films.
● I found this article interesting because I did not know that the actors were simply locals and they
even used their legal names. This article also discusses how they did not exploit any certain
scenes from the beginning of the film. The viewer never really knew what was going to happen at
the end. The reviewer is also bothered the patience of Wei for the student in the city.
● The article is neutral to the film. The article points out some of the defaults within the film but to
not be rude, they justify the reason as to why this or that happened. Since the film had local
actors to film, I can excuse the acting because at the end of the film it all added together.
4) Write a critical analysis of the film, including your personal opinion, formed as a result of the screening,
class discussions, text material, and the article.
● Not One Less was an odd film for me. From the moment from starting, I did not know where the
story was leading me at all. It was all over the place, but for good reasons. Me wanting to give
Teacher Wei a push in her substitute job and wanting to yell at all the bad kids ruining her morale,
though it threw me for a loop when she went out of her way for one of the worst students. I have
to admit, her going all the way to the city to collect a working student was truly a heartfelt
moment. Especially when she was on the TV station.
