I’m an advocate for the deaf. I am going to share about deafness, one of the exceptionalities tackled in our course EDUC703. Hello! My name is MARIA ANGELICA LEANO; I am an Early Childhood Education student. I tried to learn Filipino language, English language but Sign language is the most interesting in the world. I’m here to talk about deafness and support for children with hearing loss or those are deaf. Deaf or hard of hearing children most learn to take action to avoid missing out on important academic and social information. The ability to articulate one’s needs and make informed decisions about the support necessary to meet those needs. I started to realize that there are a lot of people who are unware of deaf culture, and I’ve been given a great platform to reframe the deaf community. I know what it’s like to be growing up, called “deaf and mute” and “ deaf and dumb” they’re words that are very degrading and demeaning to people who are deaf and hard of hearing. It’s almost… it’s almost libelous, if you want to say that. Watch me when people say deaf and dumb or deaf mute. We have to stop! We have to stop.
An advocacy for respect,
because despite being “deaf”. Although for me they just a human being like everyone else. They have the right to pursue a proper education for themselves. We should be more considerate to people like them and many others. Always be nice to be their community and let’s come together in unity. “I don’t see disability, I see nothing but ability.” Thank you for showing the world there’s nothing you can’t do. Once again, I am Maria Angelica B. Leano from 1- ECED1 An advocate for the deaf and “I don’t see disability, I see nothing but ability.” #DEAFADVOCATE
