Families’  income      Pg     3

Firstly,  the  topic  of  my  research  paper  is  “Families’  income  and  race  affects

which  political  party  they  support”  I  hypothesize  that  the  higher  a  families  income  is

the  more  they  will  tend  to  support  the  republican  party,  Also  I  strongly  feel  that  there

will  be  a  large  disparity  in  African  American  families  who  support  the  democratic  party

then  white  families.  I  am  controlling  for  race  and  my  independent  variable  is  political

party  its  values  are  Republican,  Democrat,  Independent,  No  preference,  other  party,

don’t  know  or  refused.  My  dependent  variable  is  family  income  its  values  are  as  follows

Less  than  $10,000,10  to  under  $20,000,20  to  under  $30,000,30  to  under  $40,000,40  to

under  $50,000,50  to  under  $75,000,  75  to  under  $100,000,100  to  under

$150,0009$150,000  or  more,  Don’t  know  or  Refused.

Secondly,  I  strongly  feel  that  my  dependent  variable  has  a  major  influence  on  my

independent  variable  because  in  the  society  we  all  live  in  these  circumstances  are  key

factors  in  shaping  ones  views.  Also  some  argue  that  political  parties  actually  target

certain  income  classifications  in  our  communities  and  thus  far  letting  their  party  get

stereotyped  as  a  party  for  the  rich  or  a  party  for  the  poor  or  middle  class.  Furthermore

this  has  a  ripple  effect  and  leads  to  some  belief  that  most  African  Americans  support  the

Democrat  party  And  most  White  Americans  support  the  Republican  party  my  research

will  show  that  this  is  not  true  but  income  does  have  an  influence  I  hypothesize  that

most  households  over  50,000  will  support  the  Republican  party.

Furthermore  I  must  conclude  that  my  hypotheses  is  true  and  not  only  due  most

Families  with  incomes  over  50,000  support  the  republican  party  but  also  most  African

Americans  house  holds  under  50,000  support  the  democratic  party  as  I  stated  earlier  it  may

have  a  lot  to  do  with  the  fact  that  these  political  parties  appeal  to  a  certain  class  and  income

structure.  Although  most  whites  households  make  support  the  republican  party  as  a  whole  it

is  still  many  that  support  the  democratic  party  that  make  a  little  over  50,000  a  year.  this

shows  that  although  household  income  may  be  a  factor  there  are  still  many  determining

factors  that  households  use  when  determining  which  party  to  support.

My  findings  also  show  that  African  Americans  in  general  strongly  support  the

Democratic  party  and  form  almost  a  65%  disparity  in  there  support  for  the  republican  party

with  even  weighing  in  the  families  income  levels  there  fore  its  safe  to  say  that  most  African

American  families  support  the  democratic  party  with  the  exception  of  a  few  households.
