The Hotel: Talking about Facilities, Reservations and Services

1. Hotels and Facilities


Use the Internet to find information about The Ritz hotel in London and answer the questions.

a) How old is The Ritz hotel and where are its architects from?
b) How many rooms and suites does the hotel have?
c) Who is the chef of The Ritz restaurant?
d) What can’t men wear in The Ritz restaurant during lunch and dinner?
e) Where can guests have Afternoon Tea?
f) What luxury cars can guests hire?
g) Where are the hotel’s private meeting rooms?
h) How much is the Daily Delegate Rate and what does it include?

2. Giving Directions
Use the Internet to find maps –for example Google maps– of these places. Consult the maps and then
write directions for situations a-e.

a) You are in Puerta del Sol in Madrid and a tourist asks you for directions to the Prado Museum.
Tell them how to get there.
b) You are in front of Buckingham Palace in London and a tourist asks you for directions to the Wax
Museum and the Planetarium. Tell them how to get there.
c) You are in front of the Sagrada Famillia church in Barcelona and a tourist asks you how to get to
La Boquería market. Tell them how to get there.
d) You are in front of Red Square in Moscow. A tourist asks you how to get to the Bolshoi Ballet
Theatre. Tell them how to get there.
e) You are in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris. A tourist asks you how to get to the Notre Dame
Cathedral. Tell them how to get there.

3. Choosing a Hotel in Manchester


Use the Internet –for example a booking site like Trip Advisor– to look for information about the
hotels below. Then match each hotel to one of the travellers (1- 5).

1. A business person who likes to eat well and also have a place to relax after work.
2. A young couple looking for a small, intimate hotel with character, close to Manchester’s nightlife.
3. A group of friends looking for a clean and cheap hotel near the shopping centre.
4. A couple looking for a unique venue for a summer party.
5. A business person travelling by train and looking for a simple, modern place that isn’t expensive.
