Special Diets
Many patients which are hospitalized need hospital diets. For example, the patient
whit anemia and the patient who has lost of blood need a high iron diet. This dit contains
large amounts of liver, read meat, vegetables, and fruits. Only small amounts of fat, sugar,
and salt are given to patient.
A patient with a severe ulcer is given a bland diet.This consists of food which can not
irritate the stomach. Small amounts of food are given at frequent intervals. At first, only
cream and milk are given; later other foods such as eggs, tender meat, pureed vegetables and
fruit are also allowed.
Over weight patients cannot eat cream or sugar and can only have a small amount of
butter. They can eat the normal amount f protein and large amounts of fruit and vegetable.
