Nouns

- name a person, place, animal, thing or idea.

Example: My uncle is moving to a new town.

Poem:

Lawson Inada: A Nice Place

Outside the rest home,

resting in his
wheelchair in the shade,

my father said:
"This is a nice place."

And I couldn't tell

if he meant

the rest home

in general,
the shady space
with the birds
chirping, fountain
flowing, spring
breezes blowing,

or the world.

Noun Activity:

The students will use the nouns they find in the poem “A nice place” and complete
the chart by placing each noun into the box they belong in.

Home
After they place the nouns in the chart, the students will create sentences that relate
to the poem with the nouns they find in the poem.

For example:

The home was nice.
