THE JAPANESE GARDEN by Ayelén Romero

The Japanese Garden, located in the city centre of Belén de Escobar, in the
north of Buenos Aires, is one of the most important touristic locations of the
area.

It was inaugurated on October 4, 1969 in commemoration of the fortieth

anniversary of the arrival of Japanese immigrants to the city of Escobar. Most of
them focused on the development of nursery gardens.
The garden is 2,500 metres2 and it was built in the classic style "Tsukiyama
Sansui", which represents nature on a reduced scale.

In the centre of the Garden, there is a short circuit covered in stones that
surrounds a small artificial lake. That lake works as home of different fish
species specially brought from Japan for the occasion, just as the Garden’s
lamps; which have come from far away to decorate this beautiful theme park.
As Escobar is well known as the National Flower Capital, all the Garden’s path
are bordered with a carefully selected variety of trees, flowers and plants. This
flora decorates the park all year long and it is a symbol of the local folks’
hospitality. As expected, the brightest jewel of the park is a small and beautiful
red Japanese classic bridge; which is the most popular location for the visitors’
photographs.

Throughout the years, the theme park has been taken care of by the different
city authorities, and two important refurbishments have taken place in its 49
years: one in 1977, and another in 2014. Both of them were directed and
coordinated by the engineer Yasuo Inomata, an influential landscaper and local
resident.

A thoughtful stroll around the park is one of the most popular activities that take
place here because of its beauty and natural landscape, which are very inviting
for relaxation. As its flora is properly signed, a walk around the Garden ends up
being a highly educational trip. Many people have picnics with family and
friends during spring. Whatever it is the way you choose to spend the time here,
I can assure you will have a pleasant time.
