Lighting Safari

This is a pendant that is installed

above the table around the cafeteria
area near the Bookmark in Bizzell
Library. Its purpose is to light up the
table surface for eating, yet also
provide a sense of privacy.
This type of luminaire is downlight.
They are installed above the walkway.
They provide much lumens and the
walking area is bright. Its purpose is
to light up the hallway so that people
would not trip or get injured.
I am not sure which type this lighting belong to.
However, it seems similar to track lighting. It is quite
interesting because it seems to provide both a good
lighting for the description of the art on the wall and
the floor surface. This area is the Bruce Goff
exhibition in Bizzell Memorial library.
I apologize for my bad photographing
skill. The area is actually very bright in
real life. I just happened to take it at a
bad angle. This is the troffer. They are
installed along the hallway on the main
floor in Bizzell library. Its purpose is to
well-lit the walkway.
This is the wall sconce! You are right;
they’re quite useless! This luminaire is
hung in Bizzell’s Boostin collection. This
area is already very bright due to the
troffers on the ceiling. The purpose of
this wall sconce is just for decoration.
There are two types of lighting luminaires in this photo. One is the pendant in the
middle of the hallway. In real life, this area is quite dim. I honestly find it very
interesting because this area has stairs, security gate and hallway. Thus, people
can trip easily, yet the lighting design is not bright. My assumption is that maybe
because this is the older part of the library, built in 1929. The lighting design back
then could be quite different from now.

Another type of luminaire is the track lighting a bit further in the background near
the large painting. Its purpose is to light up the painting so that it is more visible
and easily noticed.
This is another interesting one. I made multiple attempts
to take a good photo of this, but still could not. The
picture makes it look like a surface mounted, but it is
actually not. There are multiple separated light bulbs
installed in a circle to light up every direction of the wall.
I believe its purpose is make the architectural designs of
the wall more visible.
