Lines

Out line - These lines are thick ruled lines used to show visible edges and surfaces
or surfaces boundaries of the objects.

Hidden or Dotted line – These lines are of medium thickness made up of short
dashes of equal length of about 1 to 1.5 mm long and spaced at equal distance of
about 1 mm apart. They are used to show hidden edges and surface or interial
parts of the objects.

Dimension line – These lines are thin ruled lines terminated at the outer ends by
the pointed arrow heads. They are used to show dimensions of the objects.

Hatching or Section line – These lines are also thin ruled lines drawn at an angle
of 45 degree to the outline and spaced at a equal distance of about 2 mm. apart.
They are used to make the section evident.

Leader line – These lines are also thin ruled lines used to connect a note to which
it is referred.

Extension line – These lines are also thin ruled line extension beyond the outlines
by keeping the gap of about 2 mm. They are used to show dimension lines.

Center line – These lines are thin long chain line made up of long and short
dashes spaced at equal distance of about 1 to 1.5 mm. longer dashes are about 6
to 8 times the shorter dashes which are about 1mm. long. They are used to shoe
center of circles or arc and also to show axles of cylindrical or conical objects. They
are extended for a small distance beyond the outlines.

Cutting Plane line – These lines are also thin long chain lines thicker at outer edge
only. They are used to show location of cutting plane.

Short Break Line – These lines are thin wavy lines drawn free hand and used to
show short breaks.

Long Break line –These lines are thin ruled lines having short zig-zag within them.
They are used to show long breaks.
