INTRODUCTION

A co-occurrence matrix or distribution is a matrix that is defined over an image (2

D matrix) to be the distribution of co-occurring values at a given offset.
Mathematically, for an nxm image, co-occurrence matrix C would be:

Applications:
It can help with texture analysis. Co-occurrence matrices can be used as an
important feature in image matching. Features generated using this technique are
usually called Haralick features.
Texture measures like the co-occurrence matrix, wavelet transforms, and model
fitting have found application in medical image analysis in particular.
