Cabinet approves tax amnesty scheme

ISLAMABAD (AP P):The
government  Tuesday  an-
nounced Asset  Declaration
Scheme,  providing  one  more
opportunity to all Pakistani citi-
zens  to  declare  and  legalize
undisclosed  assets  inside  and
outside the country by paying
just  four percent  taxes  on  all
assets  other  than  real  estate.
The scheme would be ap-
plicable till June 30, and all Pa-
kistan citizens, other than those
holding public offices or their
dependents, would  be  able  to
take benefit from it, Advisor to
Prime  Minister  Finance,  Dr
Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said at a
press  conference  while  an-
nouncing the scheme after its
formal approval by the federal
cabinet.
The advisor was accompa-
nied by Special Assistant to the
Prime Minister on Information
and Broadcasting, Dr  Firdous
Ashiq Awan, State Minister for
Revenues,  Hammad  Azhar
and Federal Board of Revenue
Chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi.

electricity prices by Rs2.60

ISLAMABAD (Agencies): The government has
agreed to stepwise increase electricity prices by
Rs2.60 per unit after the bailout deal with the Inter-
national Monetary Fund (IMF).
The hike in rates will provide relief to the national
exchequer worth Rs200 billion that are given as sub-
sidy. The prices are scheduled to be surged in two
phases which will create a new wave of inflation.
Further details suggest that Rs1.30 per unit are likely
to be increased from July 1 in first step, and the same
amount again from September 1 in second phase.
The price of one unit of electricity will surge to
Rs15.58 from Rs12.98 as per the new tariff. The gov-
ernment has also ensured the IMF to reduce its cir-
cular debt, improve distribution and control line
losses and electricity theft.

appoints Zulfi as
PTDC Chairman
ISLAMABAD (APP):  The
Federal  Cabinet  on  Tuesday
accorded  approval  for  the ap-
pointment  of  Sayed  Zulfikar
Abbas Bukhari as Chairman of
Pakistan Tourism Development
Corporation (PTDC).
According to the notifica-
tion issued here, Special Assis-
tant to Prime Minister on Over-
seas  Pakistanis  and  Human
Resource Development, Sayed
Zulfikar  Abbas  Bukhari  had
been appointed  as  PTDC
Chairman.
“Transparency  in  PTDC,
making  Pakistan  an  Interna-
tional brand and strong coordi-
nation  with  provinces  will  be
my  top  priority,”  Zulfikar
Bukhari said in a statement is-
sued by his ministry soon after
the ratification of the appoint-

sons have died and 8 have suf-
fered  burn  injuries  after pas-

Kashmor Toll plaza.
According to police that,

way  from Kandh Kot  to

Minister  Shah Mehmood
Qureshi  on Tuesday  rejected
reports of United States impos-
ing visa restrictions and said the
US has  not  imposed  any  visa
restrictions on Pakistan.
Briefing the National As-
sembly Standing Committee on
Foreign Affairs, Qureshi  said,
“The US has not imposed any
restrictions.  The US  embassy
has released a press release in
this  regard.”
He  further  said,  the  US
has detained illegal Pakistanis
that  they  want  to send  back.
“United States is going to de-
port over seventy illegal Paki-
stanis. Pakistan  has asked  the
United States to fulfil legal re-
quirements  about  the  Paki-
stanis being deported.”
“These Pakistanis will re-
turn  to  the country  via a spe-
cial  charter plane  tomorrow,”
the foreign minister said.

NAB report establishes
Zardari’s role in eight cases
ISLAMABAD (Agencies):
The  National Accountability
Bureau (NAB)  on  Tuesday
submitted details of its ongoing
investigation  against  former
president Asif Ali Zardari in the
Islamabad  High  Court  (IHC)
and  established  his  role  in  at
least  eight cases  pertaining  to
money laundering through fic-
titious bank accounts.
The development was  re-
vealed in a report submitted by
NAB Deputy Prosecutor Gen-
eral Sardar  Muzzaffar Ahmed
Khan  and  was  also  sent  to
Zardari’s defence  team.
The former president had
requested  the  high  court  to
seek details of the number of
cases again st him. He
wanted the details to be pre-
pared  for  pre-emptive  mea-
sures  fearing  arrest.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatol-
lah Ali  Khamenei  said  on
Tuesday  that  “there  is  not
going to be any war” with the
United  States,  his  official
website  reported.
In  a  speech  to  state  offi-
cials, Khamenei said the show-
down between the Islamic re-
public  and  the  United  States
was a test of resolve rather than
a military encounter.
“This face-off is not mili-
tary because there is not going
to be any war. Neither we nor
them (the US) seek war. They
know it will not be in their in-
terest,” he said, quoted on the
Khamenei.ir  website.

Three labourers
killed, one
injured in firing
NASIRABAD  (APP):  Un-
known armed  men  gunned
down  three  labourers and  in-
jured one other at Goth Nazeer
Ahmed area of Nasirabad dis-
trict on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent  of
Police  (SSP)  Irfan Basheer
said the victims were working
in a local factory when armed
assailants  came there,  opened
fire at them and fled from the
scene.
As a result, three workers
died  on  the  spot after  receiv-
ing  bullet  wounds  while  one
other suffered injuries.
Police  on information
reached the site and shifted the
bodies  and  injured to  nearby
hospital.The  deceased  were
identified  as  Gangli, Arji  and
Mir Machi.

trade agreement with Algeria,
approved exemptions  for  as-
sets belonging to institutions of

bail in terrorism case
LAHORE (Online):  The
Lahore High Court (LHC) on
Tuesday  granted  bail  to
Tehreek-i-Labbaik  Pakistan
chief Khadim Rizvi and former
TLP  patron-in-chief  Pir Afzal
Qadri in a case lodged against
them  for  launching  a  violent
protest against the acquittal of
Aasia  Bibi  from  blasphemy
charge. The two firebrand re-
ligious leaders have  been
granted  bail  against  surety
bonds worth Rs5 million each.
Qadri, who  had been  booked
under  sedition  and  terrorism
charges, had resigned from the
TLP on May 1 citing health is-
sues and, on the court’s earlier
directions, issued a public apol-
ogy for his remarks.

petitions  seeking  pre-arrest
bail  and  information  in the
State vs Hussain Lawai case,
two pre-arrest and one post-

Majeed  case,  and  four  pre-

ent  courts.
A  total  of  35 petitions
have  been  filed  in  the  fake
accounts case at the moment,
the  report  said.
The bureau, in its report,
has made  it clear  that  the
number of inquiries and inves-
tigation may  vary  as the
probe is on-going.

Qadri were taken into “protec-
tive custody” by the state dur-
ing a crackdown in November
2018 after the TLP announced
it would observe martyrs’ day
on Nov 25, 2018. The arrests
followed weeks after the TLP
led  three-day  protests  across
the country  against Aasia
Bibi’s acquittal.

Last night, four persons were
martyred while eleven others in-
jured in a bomb explosion near Al-
Huda Mosque in Satellite Town in
Quetta city. Similarly, three terror-
ists had attacked a PC hotel in
Gwadar two days ago. According
to ISPR When the terrorists tried
to enter the hotel, the security
guards on the entrance warned
them and they opened fire.
Resultantly, a security guard was
martyred on the spot by the firing
of terrorists. However, after a com-
prehensive operation, the terror-
ists were killed. Meanwhile, Chief
Minister Baluchistan Mir Jam
Kamal Khan has strongly con-
demned bomb attack near the
Mosque. In a condemnation mes-
sage, he instructed the doctors to
provide all possible medical facili-
ties to the injured people. He also
instructed the Inspector General
Baluchistan Police to further beef
up security measures and to take
action against the terrorists and
maintain security in the area.
Since the last few days, the wave
of terrorism in Baluchistan has dis-
turbed the people of the province.
It is worth considering that, if the
personnel of our security forces,
who are expected to protect the ci-
vilians, cannot protect themselves
against terrorist attacks, how would
they save the ordinary citizens. It
will create environment of distrust
among the citizens. We, therefore,
urge, IG police to chalk out a fool
proof security in the view of cur-
rent situation and increasing inci-
dents of terrorism, to avoid terror-
ist attacks especially on the police,
to prevent, overcome and control
such attacks. A security plan or a
SOP (Standard Operating Proce-
dure) may be designed for each of-
ficer and employee from home to
their place of duty. Indeed, the
SOPs would have been already pre-
pared for individual and collective
security. If different types of SOPs
are already designed and available,
then ensure their implementation.
All the officers should be alert and
careful about their duty, who re-
sponsible for delivering, educating
and training their personnel. The
refresher training should also be ar-
ranged. So that they should be ac-
tive and alert during their duty.
They must not ignore any suspi-
cious person, bike, car, even a gar-
bage shopping bag. This can cer-
tainly prove to be helpful in elimi-
nation of terrorist incidents.
There are many problems being
faced by Policemen including post-
ing on far away stations, unavail-
ability of suitable time for rest, no
leave policy. In our opinion, Police
like other security agencies should
be kept away from politics and it
must be given complete financial
and administrative autonomy. Po-
lice department must also be ex-
tended more resources, political in-
tervention in posting and transfers
must be eliminated, it must not be
used for VVIPs duties as well as for
political purposes by political par-
ties. All above mentioned reforms
would empower Police department,
which will be helpful to establish
peace in the province. It will also
end a lot of complaints related to
the police department.

with a water discharge of 200

ity Development Working Party
(CDA-DWP)  has  approved
the  PC-I  amounting  to  Rs
81.159 million for construction
of  Orchard  Scheme  Murree
Road.

tional  Highway  Authority
(NHA) has been striving to con-
struct network of highways and
motorways  in  Balochistan  to
speed up development process
in the province. An  NHA offi-

Justice  Gulzar  observed
that the service road was con-
verted  into a private property
as  a  gate  had  also  been  in-
stalled.  How  much  rent  the
CDA  would  collect  from  the

vice  road  for  10 years,  he
asked.  The  CDA  chairman
replied that the amount of rent
was  being  assessed.
