SPECIFIC COURSE INFORMATION

a. Course Description
This course is aimed to further enhance the student’s’ knowledge regarding the principles of
Thermodynamics by using these principles in practical application specifically in the field of power
generation. This includes study of real gases, properties of gas and vapor mixtures and introduction
to reactive systems.
b. Prerequisites ME 004 Thermodynamics 1
Co-requisites None
c. Course Classification
(Required/elective/ Required

SPECIFIC GOALS FOR THE COURSE
a. Course Objective
1. Provide familiarization in identifying the proper application of the steam tables and the
Mollier Chart, the t-s diagram and h-s diagram.
2. Provide comprehension on the different elements of a steam power plant.
3. Provide knowledge on the performance ratings, formula used in evaluating the
performance of a steam power cycle, ideal and actual.
4. Develop skills in solving problems in steam power plants using steam tables.
b. Course Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students will be able to:
1. Review the Thermodynamic Cycle as discussed in Thermodynamics 1.
2. Identify the different properties of steam.
3. Identify the different processes of vapors.
4. Describe the simple Rankine Cycle Analysis (ideal and Actual)
5. Solve problems using the Ideal and Actual Reheat Cycle
6. Solve problems for Ideal and Actual Regenerative Cycle
7. Solve problems for Ideal and Actual Reheat-Regenerative Cycle
8. Describe the Incomplete-Expansion Cycle
9. Describe the principle of Topping or Superposing
10. Reflect on personal transformation along TIP graduate attributes.
c. Student Outcomes Addressed by the Course
Students will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to solve complex
engineering problems
2. Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems
