LOOKING FOR A NATIONAL BIRD

1. Read the text.

Many countries have a national flower, bird or animal. The national bird of
America is an eagle, of Finland is a swan, and of India is a peacock. Many
people think the time has come for Israel to have a national bird to call its

In Kibbutz Lotan you can learn about Israeli birds and visit the picture
gallery. Amir Balaban, director of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory, suggests
that the Israeli public should be a partner in choosing a bird that will represent
the country and be identified with it. He has already chosen the bird he thinks
would be good. It is the bulbul, a songbird that is common in Israel.

A national bird and flower be should chosen as a part of Israel's 60th
