Lesson reflection:

Rounding, adding and

subtracting decimals
The lesson that I taught was rounding, addition and subtraction decimal numbers. The standers that I am

addressing in this lesson were to teach students how to combine two skills together. Which are rounding,

addition and subtraction. This lesson is for grade 4 students, which took place at Mohammed Bin Khaled school.

My goal for this lesson is to teach students how to work with different math skill in one question.

The things that went well in my lesson are: planning for learning. Before I start to plan my lesson. First, I

organize students’ names based of their levels to make it easier for me to plan the center activities. That helped

me a lot while planning for center activities. Another thing that went well in my lesson is using collaboration

strategy. I noticed when I let students work together as groups or pairs. They understand the concept more.

Because sometimes there are students who are shy or sometimes embarrassed to speak to me to express

themselves to tell me that they didn’t understand. So, by asking the students to work together it might help

other students to understand.

There are different things that need to be improved in my lesson. The first thing is to give students some time

before I start the lesson to brain storm. To think what the lesson is about. I think this method will help me as a

teacher and the students. From teacher perspective it will give me a chance to know students background

information about the lesson to see where they are in this math concept. As a result, I will target the student’s

weakness better to improve them. From student perspective it will give them a chance to see what they already

know about the topic and to give them some time to connect between past information and new information.
