models

The lesson that I taught was subtracting decimal numbers. The standers that I’m addressing in this lesson were

to teach the students how to subtract decimal numbers. This lesson is for grade 4 students, which took place at

Mohammed Bin Khaled school. My goal for this lesson is to teach the students how to subtract decimal numbers

by following steps using models.

There are different things that went well in my lesson such as: Planning for the lesson. In the planning stage

of the lesson I did different steps to help me plan well for my lesson. For instance, I did some research about

the topic of the lesson which is subtraction decimals. The first thing I did is to search on YouTube to see how I

can teach this lesson. I looked at different teachers teach this content and that helped me to see the different

ways I can do it. Another thing that went well in my lesson is when I chose random students to answer the

question by using class dojo. By implementing this strategy, it helped me as a teacher to see if the students are

listening to the lesson and instructions. Also, it helped me later after the lesson to see the students’ progress

during the lesson by looking at their points at the end of the lesson. In addition, I started my lesson by

introducing the lesson tittle and outcome for the students to help them know what they are going to learn and

what is expected from them in the lesson. Another thing that I implemented in the lesson is to provide place

value chart for each group for the students as a tool to guide them when they do the subtraction problems.

Finally, I modelled the learning centers for the students and tell them what they are supposed to do before I

send them to do the activity centers.

There are different things that are needed to be improved for this lesson. The first thing is I will try to

implement Gradual release model to make sure the students are able to do the subtraction steps by their own.

I should first Model the skill and activity centers in front of the students. Then, Ask the students to work

individually, Then and the students to actively engage in the lesson. As a teacher I should make sure that the

students understand the skill and know what they are supposed to do before sending them to so the center
activity. Finally, I should display the steps of subtraction decimals on the board to be clear for the students to

look back at it as a reference if they need to remember what they are supposed to do.
