Panel Component Training Program

1. Panel Views:
Panel views are classified as

 Front view
 Front View Representation in scheme:

 L-side view
 L-side View Representation in scheme:
 R-side view
R-side View Representation in scheme:

 Top View
Top View Representation in scheme:

2. Front view:
The components placed in front view are
 Annunciators
 Meters
 Mimic
 Indicators
 Test terminal blocks
 IED’S
 Pushbuttons
 Comb flex relays
 Control switches
 Position indicators (ISO/CB)
3. Side view:
The components placed in Side view are
 Terminal blocks
 MCBs / Fuses
 Relay with base
 AC MCB socket
 Transistors

4. Top view /Gland Plate :

 Top view of panel with gland plate-

5. Din rail / Cable duct :

 Din rail : All components in

panel are mount on Din rail

 Cable duct : it is used to run the

cables for equipments

6. Mimic:
 It represents SLD of panel
 Mimic Representation in scheme:
7. Wire:
 Used as a conductor of electricity.

8. Ferrule & lug :

 Ferrule :
Name of a wire.
Ferrules are used for easy
identification of wires

 Lug :
It is used to securely connect or
terminate cables to electrical devices,
power or control panels, junction
boxes, equipments and machineries.
These lugs are often used to join
power cables together as well.

9. Front mounted equipments:

The components placed in front view are called front mounted equipments. They are
 IED’S
 Control switches
 Push buttons
 Annunciators
 Meters
 Indicating lamps

10. Intelligent Electronic Device’s : (IED’s)

 An Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) is a term IED Representation in scheme drawing:

used in the electric power industry to describe
microprocessor-based controllers of power
system equipment, such as circuit breakers,
transformers and capacitor banks.
 There are many types of IEDs made
by manufacturers and used for a host of purposes
in power monitoring, metering, control, Protection
and communications.
 Manufactures:

 Siemens
 ABB
 GE
 Alstom
11. Control Switches:

 Switch Representation in scheme:

 In electrical engineering, a manual s
witch with two or more positions for c
losing and opening electrical control
circuits.

 They are usually mounted on control

boards and panels and are used in a
utomatic and remote-
control systems.

 Types of Control Switches :

The common types of Control switches

are

1. DC Selector Switch

2. TNC Switch

3. Carrier

4. LBB

5. LR Switch

12. Push button :

 A push-button is a simple switch mechanism Push button Representation in
for controlling some aspect of a machine or a Scheme Drawing:
process
 Push Buttons are classified as two types
1. Stay Put
2. Spring return
 Manufactures of PB are
1. ABB
2. TEKNIC

13. Annunciators :

An Annunciator panel is a group of lights used Annunciator Representation in Drawing:

as a central indicator of status of equipment or
industrial process.

14. Meters :

 Meters are used to measure the Meters Representation in GA:

parameter

 Meters are classified in to two types.

they are
1. Analog
2. Digital
 Classification of meters are
1. TVM (Trip Vector Meter)
2. KW / MW
3. KVA
4. KVAR
5. PF
6. Frequency
7. Voltage
8. Amps
9. Double frequency
10. Double voltage
15. Indicating Lamps :

LED Representation in scheme:

 It is used to indicate the
operating condition of some system
 Color
1. ON - Red
2. OFF - Green
3. Trip - Amber
 Manufactures of indicating lamps is
1. Teknic
2. ABB

16. Auxiliary Relays :

 Suitable for tripping, blocking, interlocking, signaling etc.
in protection, control and industrial systems

17. Internal Mounted equipments :

 The internal mounted equipments are Classified as
1. MCB’s
2. Terminal Blocks
3. Transducers
4. Lamp
5. Thermostat
6. Heater
7. Earth bar
8. CMR Relays
18. MCB’s : (Miniature Circuit Breaker)
 Nowadays we use more commonly miniature circuit breaker
or MCB in low voltage electrical network instead of fuse. The
MCB has some advantages compared to fuse.
 It automatically switches off the electrical circuit during
abnormal condition of the network means in over load
condition as well as faulty condition.
 Types of MCB’s are
1. B Curve
2. C Curve
3. D Curve
19. Terminal Blocks :

 Terminal blocks are used to secure or terminate wires in their  Non-disconnecting type :
simplest form, consist of several individual terminals arranged
in a long strip. Terminals are useful for connecting wiring to a
ground or, in the case of electrical power, for connecting
electrical switches and outlets to the mains.

 Types of Terminal Blocks are

1.Disconnecting Type
2.Non Disconnecting Type

 Note : Any wires in panel goes from TB and Comes from TB

 Disconnecting type :

20. Lamp, Thermostat, Heater, Earth bar :

Lamp :
Lamps are used in panels for visible of panel equipments

Thermostat :
It is used to Detect the inside temperature of panel

Heater :
It is used to maintain the temperature of panel

Earth bar :
Earth bars provide a convenient common earthing point for
electrical installations
21. CMR Relays :
CMR Relays:
Contact Multiplication relays are generally used for the
multiplication of the contacts.
