Complex Engineering Problem

Instructions to the Student:
Please note: Work presented in an assessment must be the student's own. Plagiarism is where a student copies
work from another source, published or unpublished (including the work of a fellow student) and fails to
acknowledge the influence of another's work or to attribute quotes to the author. Plagiarism is an academic
offence and the penalty can be serious. The University’s policies relating to plagiarism can be found in the
regulations. To detect possible plagiarism we may submit your work to the TURNITIN. This searches the
Internet and an extensive database of reference material including other students’ work to identify. Once your
work has been submitted to the turnitin it will be stored electronically in a database and compared against work
submitted from this and other universities. It will therefore be necessary to take electronic copies of your
materials for transmission, storage and comparison purposes and for the operational back-up process. This
material will be stored in this manner indefinitely.
I have read the above information and I confirm that this work is my own and that it may
be processed and stored in the manner described.

What you learn: This assignment helps you to develop process control block diagram, ladder logic design and PLC
programming skills. You will demonstrate skills in using ladder logic programming and GWbasic tool.

Submit: You must submit an electronic copy of your work through TURNITIN before 19th May 2019 23:59.

Problem:
You visited Capital Foods Factory in 1st week of this semester and identified following processes that needs automation in
factory:
1. Dough Making
2. Filtering (Dough cut into the shape of the biscuit to be made)
3. Slowly cooling down of the cookies after baking
4. Number of biscuits per pack
5. Placement of biscuit packs in a box
Now you need to automate all the processes using process control block diagram, ladder logic diagram and then
implement it on PLCs as well.
References:
1. Lecture slides of week 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 posted in group related to ladder logic diagrams.

Deliverables:
Task #1: Draw a process control block diagram of the above mentioned processes.
Task #1: Draw a ladder logic diagram to automate all of the above mentioned processes.
Task #2: Implement the code in Control Lab PLCs during demo.

Marking Scheme:
A submission is unlikely to attract an excellent grade unless the following criteria are met:
 You must provide evidence that work is your own i.e. plagiarism report of TURNITIN showing plagiarism level
less than 10%.
 Your report should be clearly written and well presented.
 The University standard marking scheme apply, see below:
Description of Assessment Performance Obtained Marks
Complete process control block diagram + Complete 10
ladder logic diagram + successful demo of PLC code
+ less than 10% plagiarism report
Complete process control block diagram + Complete 7-9
ladder logic diagram + unsuccessful demo of PLC
code + less than 10% plagiarism report

Remember:
1. Your work, once electronically submitted, will be firstly checked against the TURNITIN tool. If your work shows a
high percentage of similarity, we will further check your work against the actual sources in greater detail.

2. Please note that the technical report must be done individually. This aspect is not group work, so no collaborative or
cooperative work of any kind is allowed. If your answers (wording) are same (or mostly same) as someone else’s work then
you and all others involved will fail the assignment and all involved will be reported for plagiarism (see the front cover
