 Childhood/family
● Born April 16, 1971, in lake Jackson, Texas
● Selena was the youngest of three children
● Daughter of abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Ofelia samora
● Selena's father was previously a Mexican-American musician
● At the age of 10, selena became lead singer in the family band that her dad started
called selena y los dinos
● Her brother Abraham played the guitar and her sister suzette on the drums
● Selena grew up speaking English, but she had to sing in spanish because of the
band, when she leaned the lyrics eventually learned to speak spanish fluently
● Graduated from American School of Corresponding high school and enrolled at the
Pacific western University.
● In 1984, selena recorded her first LP record
● 1987 she was discovered by rick Trevi who was the founder of the ‘Tejano Music
Awards’.
