AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW

SCENE ONE: EXT. STREET

(CALEB, JASON)
SOUND: RAIN, SPLASHING FOOTSPETS, WIND, BREATHING
CALEB: Come on, Jason, hurry up! The rain won’t stop
if you stand still!
JASON: We’ve been walking through the rain for the
past hour, and we still haven’t found the end
of it. We won’t be able to find it under these
circumstances, so let’s return for now and
come back when the weather gets better.
CALEB: You know very well that the rainbow- (GETS
INTERRUPTED BY JASON)
JASON: That the rainbow is appearing only after the
rainfall. I got it Caleb. We’ve been through
this conversation before and believe me I
don’t want to go through it again.
CALEB: Then it’s settled! We’re not returning to my
grandparents’ house until we find the end of
the rainbow.
JASON: (FED UP) This is stupid, Caleb.
CALEB: Stupid as in coming all the way to Ireland to
discover the truth behind a myth that might not
be real, or stupid that we are doing it in this
weather?
JASON: (EXASPERATED) Never thought I’d agree with
something you said that quick.
CALEB: Good to know that we are on the same page.
(SMALL PAUSE) Now if we keep walking in this
direction we’ll soon get into the forest,
which means we’ll get closer to the truth.
JASON: The truth being the sad reality when we’ll
find nothing there and realise that we
bothered to come here for nothing.
CALEB: Can you stop being so pessimistic?
JASON: (SLIGHTLY ANNOYED) Can you start being more
realistic?
4.

CALEB: (CLICKS HIS TONGUE) Don’t assume anything

until you see it with your eyes.
JASON: I just hope this isn’t an actual waste of
time.
SOUND: _____________ _CRACKING LEAVES, RAIN
CALEB: Only if the wind and the leaves wouldn’t come
into my face, this trip would have been
decent.
JASON: (SCOFFED) Man, it was your idea to come all
the way to Ireland. You’ve got no damn right
to complain about this now. Is no one’s fault
that you wanted to hold your little expedition
in the middle of autumn. Where, as you can
see, the weather is terrible.
CALEB: (BRUSHED JASON OFF) Anyway, I have a feeling
that we are getting closer to it.
JASON: If we end up finding nothing, will you agree
that this whole thing wasn’t worth it?
CALEB: It’s too early for this kind of negativity,
Jason. Beside that- (STOPS ABRUPTLY)
JASON: (ANNOYED) What is it now?
CALEB: Do you (SMALL PAUSE/CONFUSED) Can you see
that?
JASON: What I’m supposed to look at- (CONFUSED)Am I
hallucinating?
CALEB: (GETS EXCITED) I don’t think you are.
JASON: (IN DENIAL) Nah, this can’t be true.
CALEB: I told you.
JASON: (IN DENIAL) We shouldn’t be able to find it.
The rainbow is literally an optical illusion,
so its end doesn’t exist. But…
CALEB: But…
JASON: The rainbow is going through that tree’s
hollow. (LOST OF WORDS)
SOUND:________________VIOLENT PAT ON THE SHOULDER
CALEB: Dude, I freaking told you!(SMACKED JASON’S
ARM) Erase the shock from your face and let’s
get closer. (SMALL PAUSE/IMPATIENT) Dude,
hurry up, drop that statue of liberty act and
keep moving.

SOUND:________________FADE OUT

SCENE TWO: INT. CAVE

(CALEB, JASON, FEN)
SOUND:________________ECHO, WATER DRIPS, STEPPING IN WATER, RIVER
JASON: We’re here now. (SMALL PAUSE/SARCASTIC)
Surrounded by a beautiful emptiness, a split
path, and the most mesmerising thing in this
space, a river. (CASUAL) To be fair, the
rainbow blew me away and I didn’t expect to
find a cave inside a tree. But there’s still
nothing here. (PAUSE) Dude are you listening?
Caleb?
MUSIC:________________FANTASY MUSIC BUILDS UP
CALEB: You were wrong, Jason. (SLIGHTLY MESMERISED)
This was more than worthy.
JASON: And why do you find it so appealing?
CALEB: Why?! Because, because of all of these! The
sparkling particles in the air, the weird
plants in the water the- (GETS INTRERRUPTED BY
JASON)
JASON: Caleb- (GETS INTRERRUPTED)
CALEB: The flying fa- (GETS INTRERRUPTED)
JASON: (FED UP) Caleb! (SMALL PAUSE AND SIGHS) What
are you exactly seeing, Caleb?
CALEB: (HESITANT) The things I used to see back then.
JASON: Back then… do you mean the accident? Caleb,
that happened 9 years ago, you can’t tell me
that your hallucinations decided to re-appear
suddenly.
CALEB: I told you that is something different! It’s
like a massive Deja-vu!
JASON: Different in the sense that you’re able to see
things that the human’s eye shouldn’t be able
to see?
CALEB: (EXASPERATED) That’s exactly what I’ve been
trying to tell you!
JASON: I know you’re still getting your father’s
death, but this doesn’t make sense. The
doctors said that everything was alright-
6.

CALEB: I don’t wanna talk about him.

JASON: It’s probably… just a temporary thing, Caleb.

Just- don’t worry about that, once we are out
of here, you’ll be fine-

CALEB: How am I fine, Jason, how? Are you able to

see all of these? Can you hear or see the
small elves or whatever they are in front of
your legs?
JASON: What?
CALEB: Exactly! You can’t see anything!
JASON: (SMALL PAUSE/SIGHS) Ok, ok. Let’s calm down
for a sec and think through this. After the
accident, how frequently had this happened?
CALEB: Not all the time, but once when I was home
this cat sneaked through the window and later
my mum also came home…
JASON: And?
CALEB: She couldn’t see it, Jason. It was exactly in
front of her, the cat stared at her, but she
couldn’t see it.
JASON: What do you see now?
SOUND:________________RIVER SLIGHTLY INTENSIFIED, BIRD SOUNDS, BELL,
MUSIC:________________FANTASY MUSIC BUILDS UP
CALEB: There’s a waterfall to your left, is probably
much bigger than what you see, in the air are
loads of sparkling particles flying around
like fire flies. Dunno if you feel it or not,
but there is a small elf in your jacket pocket
and much more surrounding you. And there’s
gold, a lot of gold.
SOUND:________________EVERYTHING LESS AUDIBLE
JASON: So, the- (PHONE RINGS)
SOUND:________________PHONE RINGING
CALEB: Can it wait?
JASON: Luke is alone with an alcoholic woman, who’s
supposed to be our ‘mother’. I gotta answer.
Give me a minute.
SOUND:_______________ WALKING AWAY IN THE DISTANCE, TWINKLE, BELL

FEN: You can try explaining, but humans of his

kind won’t understand.
CALEB: (STARTLED/SHOCKED)What the f- (PAUSE) Uhm…
(SPEECHLESS)
FEN: I wouldn’t have made my entrance like that,
if I knew you’ll get so scared.(CURIOUS) Do I
look fierce to you? Can’t you understand me?
Are you- (INTRERRUPTED)
CALEB: You’re too close to my face.
FEN: (GETS EXCITED) So you can understand me!
Since you got here, you didn’t look surprised
by our world.
CALEB: (INTRIGUED/CONFUSED) Our world?
FEN: I believe you already noticed, but this isn’t
a hallucination. You are in a parallel world
right now, or to be more precise you are in
between them. Human world and Albareth.
CALEB: Alba-?
FEN: Albareth. The world in which the mythical
creatures coexist together. (SPEAKS WITH
SUPERIORITY) The kinds of you should’ve learnt
about us, I feel offended by your lack of
knowledge. Us, pixies, hate being
disrespected.
CALEB: Calling us ‘the kinds of you’ and you’re the
one offended?
FEN: I didn’t mean to offend you, but what I said
shouldn’t bother you anyway as you’re not
human.
CALEB: What do you mean I’m not human?
(CONFUSED/SHOOK) Don’t I look human enough to
you?
FEN: Your appearance is human; I agree with you
on this one. But if you were fully human you
wouldn’t be able to see me or anything that’s
part of this world.
8.

CALEB: I wasn’t always able to see all of these, so

something-
FEN: Something interfered with your life cycle.
CALEB: What do you mean by something interfered
with your life cycle?
FEN: I think I should have mentioned it before,
but I sensed a huge amount of power coming
from you. I’m not sure if you knew, but you
used to have a head injury.
CALEB: (CONFUSED) I’ve never hit my head in a way
that will damage it.
FEN: The car accident you were speaking about…
you weren’t supposed to come back alive.

SCENE THREE: INT. CAVE

(CALEB, JASON, FEN)
JASON: Sorry, Luke wouldn’t stop speaking about
this thing he bought- (STOPS ABRUPTLY) What
happened to you?
CALEB: (SMALL PAUSE) I think- Uhm- The bags we left
outside, can you go and get them?
JASON: (HESITANT) Sure… (SMALL PAUSE) Man, are you
okay? Did something happened while I was gone?
CALEB: (AWKWARD) No- No! I just got a headache and
there are some pills in my bag. It would be
great if you’d get them for me.
JASON: (SUSPISIOUS) Ok, I’ll be back in a sec.
SOUND:________________FADING STEPTS, ECHO, WIND, HOLLOW CLOSED
JASON: What the hell?!
SOUND:________________HITTING SOUND
JASON: The hollow freaking closed! (SHOUTING)
Caleb! Oy, Caleb!
SOUND:________________HITTING SOUND WITH ECHO WHILE CALLING CALEB’S
NAME
FEN: Is it really alright to leave him alone
without any explanations?
CALEB: If there is someone capable to take care of
themselves it would be Jason.
FEN: Do you really wanna to do this?
9.

CALEB: If this is the only way I can find out the

reason behind my survival, then yes.
FEN: That’s all I need to know. (EXCITED) Welcome
to Albareth!
