M-3801C IPSplot Oscillograph Analysis Software

The M-3801C IPSplot® Oscillograph Analysis Software package runs in conjunction with the M-3800A, M-3810,
M-3820B, or M-3822 IPScom® Communications Software package on any IBM PC-compatible computer, enabling
the plotting and printing of waveform data downloaded from Beckwith Integrated Protection Systems (IPS). IPSplot is
also capable of plotting and printing waveform data files in COMTRADE format, including files downloaded from the
HandspringTM VisorTM or Palm® Handheld.

Installation and Setup

IPSplot runs under the Microsoft Windows operating system, version 95/98 or later, and is available on one 3.5”
double-sided, high-density (DS/HD 1.44 Mb) disk or CD-ROM.

Overview
When IPSplot is run, the menu and tool bar are displayed (see Figure 1). This brochure describes each IPSplot menu
selection and explains each IPSplot command in the same order that they are displayed in the software program.
When starting IPSplot, the only menu command initially allowed is File/Open, to open a file to be analyzed.

■ NOTE: Cursor bars may be dragged to any location by positioning the cursor arrow on a bar and dragging the
mouse. Double click the left key to position one cursor bar and Shift-Double Click or double click the right
key to position the other cursor bar at the current cursor arrow time position.

The File menu allows the opening of an oscillograph file previously downloaded by IPScom®. It supports both
Beckwith oscillograph files (file extension *.osc) and COMTRADE format data files (file extension *.cfg), which are
used by M-3410 and M-3410A relays. When a COMTRADE file is opened, IPSplot® will generate a new Beckwith
oscillograph file, retaining the COMTRADE file name, but with an *.osc extension. The newly generated file can be
used thereafter. The File menu also permits users to preview and print selected oscillographs. Exit closes the
IPSplot program.

Change Y Scale allows the individual designation of a magnitude scale for voltage and current traces.

Fill Screen: Instruction for the program to choose oscillograph position and time scaling such that the trace between
the placed vertical bar cursors essentially fills the screen.
View All: This instruction changes the screen from the displayed Select Waveform dialog to displaying all the
oscillographs (same as reopening the file).
Primary Value: Allows user to toggle between primary and secondary values.
Zoom In: Expands time scale for displayed oscillographic data.
Zoom Out: Compresses time scale for displayed oscillographic data.
Scroll Left: Displays data to the left of the current view by one time bar (trace appears to move to the right).
Scroll Right: Displays data to the right of the current view by one time bar (trace appears to move to the left).
Page Left: Displays data to the left of the current view by a time approximately equal to the entire displayed time
(trace appears to move to the right).
Page Right: Displays data to the right of the current view by a time approximately equal to the entire displayed time
(trace appears to move to the left).
All functions on the Oscillograph and File Menus are present on the toolbar (see Figure 5).

The Window menu enables positioning and arrangement of multiple IPSplot windows at the same time. Clicking on
any displayed window activates that frame, allowing manipulation of the data.

information for IPSplot.
