Growth Trajectory

In my four years here at Linda Marquez Huntington Park Institute of Applied

Medicine I have grown to become a better person. In 9th grade the trait I demonstrated
was being nervous. I didn’t ask my teachers for help, I never liked presenting, and I
stuttered a lot when I got nervous. Throughout the semesters we completed
interdisciplinary projects that really helped me focus on making my presentation skills
better. Now, as a twelfth grader, I am fearless. I always ask my teachers for extra help
to further understand the task. I like to be the second or third group presenting to not
wait until the last minute to let all the nerves kick in all at once. I also take deep breaths
before, so I can calm myself down when I feel like I’m getting nervous. My new trait can
help me in my new path to not be afraid to present in front of my colleagues in college
or even when I’m going to a job interview.

A skill I demonstrated in the 9th grade was getting easily distracted. I had the
tendency of always talking to my classmates. I daydreamed while the teacher was
giving a lecture, and I completed work from another class because I didn’t do it at home.
To fix this bad habit I knew I needed to be quiet to avoid being confused and having to
ask the teacher to repeat themselves. My mom always told me to not talk during class
because I wasn’t able to complete the assignment since I had no clue what to do. As a
senior, I am more focused on my work because I don’t talk when the teacher is talking. I
stay awake and do not day dream. I make sure I finish my assignments first and, if I
have time in the end, I work on other work from another class. This skill can help me
stay awake to not miss anything important from my professor’s lectures in college.

Lastly, the behavior I demonstrated as a 9th grader was being careless. I didn’t
do my work, I failed my classes and tests, and I waited until the last minute to turn in
any assignments. The experience that made me change was that I realized not
graduating high school wasn’t going to help me be successful to accomplish my goals I
had set for myself. Now, as a 12th grader, I am an ambitious person. I turn in all my
work on time. I motivate myself to not fail any of my classes, and I complete all of my
assignments before hand to not stress about the work being due the next day. This can
help me in college so I can get my assignments or essays done early and not have to
worry about it getting it done later.
