EXPERIMENT No.

OBJECT: To prepare and evaluate 5ml Zinc Sulphate Eye Drops BP 0.25%
REQUIREMENTS: Zinc sulphate, Sodium chloride, Solution for eye drops (q.s.)
FORMULA:

3 Distilled Water q.s. to 5.0 ml Vehicle

PROCEDURE:
1. Weigh the required quantities of ingredients i.e Zinc Sulphate and NaCl
2. Dissolve Zinc Sulphate and NaCl in required volume of distilled water.
3. Add more distilled water to make up the required volume of eye drop.
4. Filter the solution and transfer the solution to final container and sealed the cap.
5. Sterilize the container containing preparation by heating at 98-100 for 30 minutes.
6. Clean the container and label.

CATEGORY: Astringent
DOSE: Instill one or two drops in the effected eye up to four times a day.
STORAGE: Preserve in a well-closed container and protect from light and contamination.
USES: Astringent Zinc Sulphate Eye Drops contains Zinc Sulphate as an active ingredient. Zinc
Sulphate Eye Drops works by inhibiting the herpes simplex virus growth. It is an effective
astringent therefore its eye drop is used for temporarily relieving redness, burning, and irritation
caused by dry eyes.
EVALUATION:
1. pH -Ideally ophthalmic preparations should be formulated at a pH equivalent to the tear value
of 7.4.
2. Viscosity (1 pascal second=10 poise=1000 cps)
3. Clarity Test
4. Leaker Test
5. Sterility Test by Direct Inoculation method
