DISCUSSION
Urine
Either 5 or 10 ml. of ferrous hydroxide filtrate is transferred to a
separatory funnel. Water is added to bring the volume to 49 ml. One
ml. of c.p. glacial acetic acid is added and the solution is mixed. Petroleum
benzine is added and the analysis is continued as outlined by Watson and
co-workers (1, 4).
Feces
SUMMARY
A procedure has been discussed whereby the optimum extraction of
urobilinogen from feces and urine can be accomplished by standardiza-
tion of acidulation of the ferrous hydroxide filtrates in the Watson
method.
