‘To Whom It May Concern:
I worked closely with Karley Regehr during her internship at Stirling School. Throughout this four-month
period, Karley consistently worked to develop and refine her instructional practice. She accepted feedback
sptacefully and pushed herself to take risks and try new approaches in the classroom.
Early on in her internship, Karley identified classroom culture and management as a component of her
practice that she wanted to develop. In the ensuing weeks, I watched as Karley made efforis to form positive
relationships with her students ~ both inside and outside of her classes —and worked to establish a safe,
caring, and productive classtoom environment. She has experimented with various cooperative learning
strategies and found @ nice balance between encouraging classtoom discussion, and preserving time for quiet
thinking, writing, and reflection. | encourage Karley to continue building meaningful relationships with her
students, through co- and extracurricular opportunities, for such work often also contributes to a posi
classroom atmosphere.
With regard to planning and assessment, Karley has also grown considerably. I know it was her ability to
critically reflect on the relative success of her lessons that allowed Karley to steadily improve her instruction,
‘As the semester progressed, Karley and | had various conversations about her students’ writing and how she
might encourage growth through timely and targeted feedback. I have been impressed with the quality,
timeliness, and regularity of her written feedback, largely through the Google Classroom platform.
am encouraged by the work Karley has done with her Personal Inquiry Project, or PIP, She noted a need
within our school to work with reluctant readers during our daily DEAR period. Consequently, Karley began
researching literacy intervention strategies, as well as conducting one-on-one interviews with students in an
effort to gauge their interests and potential struggles. Literacy instruction and intervention is a complex
subject, und one that many teachers in our schoo! are still seeking to better understand. I very much
appreciate that Karley chose to focus her PIP on a topic so relevant and important tothe staff and students in
‘our school.
Karley’s calm and professional demeanor in the classroom helped her work with students in e measured and
constructive way. I appreciate the professional conversations we've had about teaching English as well as
about Karley’s role as a developing educator within our school.
Sincesply,
oh
