Doctor Dodge

Background
Doctor Dodge will be a variation of the popular outdoor game “Dodgeball” in
which two teams or players of two teams throw balls at each other with the purpose
of hitting and eliminating. The game is played worldwide and it is played all over
with equal zeal and zest by people of all age group.
Equipment
Since dodgeball is played with many different types of dodgeballs, in playing Doctor
Dodge the players can use foam, rubber and cloth depending on the availability, and
what the players prefer.
Court

A typical dodgeball game is usually played on a basketball court, volleyball court,

football oval, soccer pitch, or a football field. There is no fixed dodgeball court
design. Same as playing doctor dodge, you can play as long as the venue is spacious
this game is picked on the best available surface that is usually one of the above-
mentioned. The court or surface must have a center line, so each team will know
their base.

Mechanics
 Gather the players of each team, as there will only be 2 teams competing.
Each team must be composed of 5 members and above. The more the better!
 Then in selecting each team’s doctor, there will be a drawing or raffle where
all the players will pick a paper and the one who gets a paper with a “doctor”
written on it, he or she will be the doctor of the team. The opposing team
should NOT know who-is-who, as it would be easier for them to locate their
target.
 After each team is settled with one doctor, players can then throw balls at
opposing members in order to hit them or eliminate them.

 The game ends when one team is entirely eliminated, which would happen a lot
quicker if a team loses their "doctor.” So it is also important to protect the
team’s doctor, because once they have been hit, the team other team wins.

 It is a key for a team to pay attention in order to figure out who the enemy
doctor is. Some teams employ a "fake doctor" strategy to throw the opposing
team off-guard as to who the doctor actually is

 An eliminated regular player has to sit out of the game and shout “I’m Dead”

 If a player catches the ball thrown at him/her, then the thrower is eliminated.

 The thrower is also eliminated in case the ball rebounds off one player and
caught by another from the opposing team.

 The game works on the concept of elimination and resurrection where a player
can be reinstated after being eliminated.

 Throwing a ball from outside the court can eliminate the thrower if the purpose
was to hit the opposing team or any member of it

 If a player goes out of the court when a ball is thrown at him, he is then
automatically eliminated

 Moving into the opponent’s zone makes one eliminated, so does the act of
picking up a ball from the zone of the opponent

 Elimination also takes place when the thrown ball hits opposition player’s on the
head.

 No player is allowed kicking the balls.

Benefits

Aerobic Exercise
A regulation-sized Doctor dodgeball court/ surface is 60 feet long, forcing players to
sprint across the court to avoid being hit by a ball and taken out of the game. This
burst of running can improve cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure and
pulse, improving circulation and burning calories. It can also constitute a form of
interval training, with players running for brief periods of time. According to "High
Intensity Interval Training," running intervals can offer a temporary boost to the
metabolism while improving muscle strength and coordination.

Agility and Balance

Players running across a court don't just run; they also have to dodge balls. This can
improve agility as players adjust their bodies at a rapid pace. It can also help players
improve their balance. Successful players don't slip when they see a ball coming
their way, and they learn to maintain an upright posture that reduces their risk of
falling.

Strength Training
A standard Doctor dodgeball court/ surface is 30 feet across, and players must throw
large balls a moderate distance to successfully hit members of the other team. This
requires strength in the shoulders, back, abs and arms, and repeatedly throwing the
ball can help build muscle endurance. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, regular muscle-building exercise can decrease the risk of
diseases such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Hand-Eye Coordination
Both ball dodgers and ball throwers have to have good hand-eye coordination. To
successfully hit other players, throwers need to coordinate their throws not only with
the other players' current location, but also with their anticipated location when the
ball lands. Runners have to keep abreast of the current location of the ball, adjusting
their location accordingly.
Promotes weight loss
The object of the game is to avoid getting hit so you can stay on the floor and help
your team. The longer you stay “alive,” the more calories you’ll burn. According to
HealthStatus.com, a 155-pound person will burn 186 calories during 30 minutes of
playing dodgeball.
Stress reliever
You can feel a bad day slip away bit by bit with every throw. Also, it’s fun! Laughter
is the best stress reliever, so get on the court, have fun and laugh out loud.
Builds teamwork
Working with your team to take down the opponents is a great way to not only learn
and work with others but also gain leadership skills.
