Geophysical benefits – Low frequencies

• A low frequency sweep from 1.5 Hz to 86 Hz

in 9 seconds was run the UniVib vibrator.
• Through low frequency sweep design, we
could extend the vibrator bandwidth
towards very low frequencies.

Geophysical benefits – Low frequencies

 (a) Comparison of Maximum

theoretical forces at low
frequencies (4 to 12 Hz).

 (b) Comparison of Measured

Maximum fundamental forces at
low frequencies (4 to 12 Hz).

Note: Because Envirovibe cannot

stably shake below 4 Hz, the
comparison shown here is at 4 Hz
and above.

• The vibrator can shakes stably up to 400 Hz with good

amplitude and phase performance.

Geophysical benefits – Force energy penetration

• The vibrator force

was set at 4800 lbf
(21.3 kN).
• Ten 10-Hz
geophones were
placed in a
borehole from a
depth of 229 m
down to 297 m at
7.6 m interval.
• With the small
amount of force
(4800 lbf or 21.3
kN), the force
energy can reach
down to 275
meters in a wide
frequency range of
400 Hz.

Geophysical benefits – True source wavelet

• The vibrator force

was set at 10400
lbf (46.3 kN).
• The vibrator was
placed on load
cells so that the
true vibrator
ground force can
be measured.
• The vibrator can
produce the true
source wavelet in
the frequency
range of 200 Hz.

Geophysical benefits – Source signature consistency

• The vibrator was

run using a linear
sweep from 6 Hz to
400 Hz in 20s at
4800 lbf (21.3 kN).
• The vibrator
repeated for 20
times at the same
location.
• A geophone at the
depth of 900 ft (267
m) was used to
evaluate the
vibroseis source
signature
consistency.
• The vibrator is
very consistent in
the entire
frequency range
(400 Hz), very solid
below 250 Hz.

Summary:
• With low frequency sweeps the vibrator can reach to very low
frequencies (1.5 Hz).
• The vibrator can stably sweep up to 400 Hz.
• The vibrator offers strong force-energy penetration even though its
size is small. With only 5000-lbf force the fundamental energy can
detected at the depth of 900 feet (267 meters).
• The vibrator can offer precise source wavelet up to 200 Hz.
• The vibrator keeps a good source signature consistency up to 400 Hz.
