Reharmonisation Techniques Assessment:

MUS3307 Jazz Composition 1

ASSIGNMENT:

Create Reharmonisations for ONE or TWO jazz standards:


- At least one needs to be a 32 bar song form.
- The other can be a blues

- If you choose one reharmonization you must display each of the following devices.
Between your two reharmonisations make sure you display at least one instance
of all the discussed specific techniques (tick to show):

- Submit your reharmonizations via a Sibelius file with voicings and chords.
Show the original melody, with original changes below the stave (or bottom stave if
voicing for piano), Then show your new reharmonised changes above the stave.

- Be sure that your new changes support the melody note in question, and that a
mix of the original and new harmonic material coexist.

- Feel free to change the metre, phrasing or employ any other rhythmic devices you
feel necessary, although this is not required.
Marking Key:

1. At least one correct instance of all listed techniques (above) between one or
two jazz standards. At least one needs to be a 32 bar song form. All
techniques need to be marked clearly on the score with a square bracket, and
formatted as described above. /75 Marks

2. An excellent balance between original harmony and new points of


reharmonisation. /10 Marks

3. A high level of originality and creativity employed /15 Marks
