SCH4U Orgo Test Outline
SCH4U Orgo Test Outline
Test Breakdown
10 – 15 multiple choice. All content is fair game! Will not require drawing anything.
2 – 5 complete/draw/name reactions.
o This will be a mixture of reactions that can have multiple correct answers (like on the mixed
reaction worksheet).
o Some will be easy 1-step reactions (like on the quiz) and there’ll be at least 1 multi-step reaction
(like on the mixed reactions worksheet)
Some short answer questions that deal with properties, reactions and maybe drawing out stuff.
o Ex. Solubility, boiling/melting point, scents
Test Topics
Naming and reactions for the following. You’ll have to memorize the priority list, catalysts, oxidizing
agents, etc.
o Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes
o Benzenes
o Alcohols
o Aldehydes, ketones, ethers
o Carboxylic acids, esters
o Amines, amides
Stereoisomers – may need to draw various isomers
Chirality stuff (chiral or non-chiral, enantiomers)
Cis/trans definition/naming/drawing
Know benzene derivatives common names – phenol, toluene, aniline, xylene
DO NOT need to know specific compounds that have benzenes in them (ex. TNT, tarragon) but do
know that they tend to occur in aromatic substances and pain relievers.)
Ester lab – just know that esters are also responsible for many scents. The lab we were supposed to do
produced synthetic esters that had scents attached to them. (Bubblegum/banana, mint, the weird third
one that was kinda like mint but with something else and acetone)
Properties of molecules based on functional groups present and size of molecule.
Review Questions
Pg. 72 – 77 #1 – 5, 7, 9 – 11, 23 – 41, 42, 44, 47
If a questions asks to write balanced equations you don’t need to balance anything unless it’s a
combustion reaction.
NOTES:
Polymers ARE NOT on this test.
If you are not present on the assigned test date and have an excused absence – you will receive a more
difficult test with polymers sometime after March Break.
If you are not present on the assigned test date and have a doctor’s note or other approved
documentation – you will a different test at the same difficulty level with polymers sometime after
March Break.
I DO NOT answer any questions on the test day for ANYONE. Be sure to ask any questions before the
test day.
