Family factors - Diabetes,hypertension or multiple pregnancy and congenital malformation.

Socioeconomic factors-In pregnant women low socio economic status can increase the risk
of adverse pregnancy outcome. Patients belonging to low socio economic status have a higher
incidence of anemia, preterm labour, growth retarded babies, Over crowding

Poor standard of housing and hygiene, Poor nutrition

Social environment.

Demographic factors-

Age-Pregnancy is safest between the age of 20 to 29 years.

Obstetrical history-Age>30 years and pregnancy following a long period of infertility, after
induction of ovulation are of high risks, anemia, bleeding, hypertension, toxemia, and urinary
tract infections,malnourished.

Height of mother:- Below 150cm particularly.

Weight of mother:- overweight or underweight.

Maternal medical history-


 Diabetes mellitus
 Pulmonary disease-tuberculosis.
 Renal disease (Pyelonophritis)
 Thyroid Disorders
 Psychiatric illness
 Cardiac disease
 Epilepsy
 Viral hepatitis
 Pre eclampsia ,eclampsia
 Anaemia
 Infections in pregnancy (Malaria HIV)

Psychological high risk factors:


Stress,emotion

Previous obstetrical factors:


Unbooked mother, women with medical disorders
Ectopic pregnancy, hydatidiform mole, IUGR, Hyramnios, Malpresentation, obesity &
prolonged labour.

Present obstetrical factors:


PROM, Cord complications, fetal distress,

PPH, Retained placenta

Unskilled attendant

Reproductive factors
 Two or more previous miscarriage or previous induced abortion. These cases further
run the risk of further abortion or pretern delivery.
 Previous stillbirth, neonatal death or birth of babies with congenital abnormality.
 Previous preterm labour or birth of a IUGR or macrosomic baby
 Grand multiparity
 Previous Caesarean section or hysterotomy.
 Third stage abnormalities(PPH) this has particular tendency to recur.
 Previous infant with Rh-insoimmunisation or ABO incompatibility.

Previous surgical factors


 Myomectomy
 Repair of complete perineal tear
 Repair of vesical vaginal fistula
 Repair of stress incontinence

Personnel Habits factors:


Alchol

Smoking

Tobacco chewging

Drug use
